Does anyone know why "R" is not spelled out?

Hi maskerade, was wondering that myself. I'm new here, but Ive been working on this a few days now.
My question is this: Why does the hint refer to "magic squares" when none of them are "magic?" Well, all except for one...

One of the puzzle solves has and R in it instead of "ARE" spelled out. Thought maybe the R in the clue was just doing the same thing and confirming that an R in a puzzle is valid.

Hi zupzel, the square which needs to be transposed. Hope that makes sense.

Any magic square has to add up to 15 all ways. None of them do.

I haven't made any progress with the clue, or the number strings (except the first). Willing to discuss ideas/theories in private if you'd like to collaborate.
