This game sounds intriguing, but when I took the time to read about the details, I found out that there will be four clues available for each journal page. But you MUST PAY FOR THE CLUES. The app is free, but the clues are not free. I could not find the price for the clues.

I’m interested in seeing how far I can go for free. I just never played Pokémon Go — and this seems to be a variant with a prize.

The app is free, but the clues are not free. I could not find the price for the clues. Jeff on their FB page asked about the clue cost. Hidden Secrets answered the following: Hi, Jeff! Many players will be able to progress through the game without the use of hints. The puzzles start easy to give you a chance to get to know how they're played, then increase in difficulty. For players that want or need extra assistance, hints will be available for purchase using our in-app currency (“gold coins”). Coins may also be earned or rewarded during gameplay so it is possible to obtain enough coins for hints without using any real money. Hope this helps to explain! Please let us know if you have any other questions. - HS Team

It still does not explain the COST. I have asked them the same question, but they do not answer when you ask about the cost. They skirt around the issue.
I am not going to waste my time with this hunt. I hate to invest a lot of time into it, only to find out that once I've progressed far into the game, when the puzzles get more difficult, that the only way to get any further, is to purchase a hint.
They have to make money some how to be able to offer ten $10,000 prizes. But they are not being up front about it. And I dislike that.

They have to make money some how to be able to offer ten $10,000 prizes. But they are not being up front about it. And I dislike that. Hi Genetic Blend, I reached out to Hidden Secrets for a more detailed response. Here is their reply: Thanks for your candid comments, and please know we feel badly that you are not planning to play the Hidden Secrets mobile game. Can we perhaps change your mind?
We did not intend to be evasive with your question about the cost of hints - our apologies! We have established now that hints will have a cost of $0.99 each or less if purchased in a bundle pack (bundle pricing still TBD). However, hints are purchased with in-game "gold coins" -- and gold coins may be earned and rewarded throughout the game. It is entirely possible to obtain enough coins to purchase a hint with no real money. We have included the hint system to provide a way for players to move forward if they get stuck on a daily puzzle. The daily puzzles are meant to be solved. And we encourage group play and getting help from friends! However, puzzles have an inherent quality where they require a solution. And even though we built the puzzles to be solved - even a savvy 10-year old could solve! - we've also built in some increasing levels of play to keep players engaged and challenged.
Note that hints are ONLY for daily puzzles and have nothing to do with deciphering the clues to figure out the treasure locations. We are giving away real and significant money - $100,000 in total - and this is not a random contest. The winners will be those who through their own clever minds are able to figure out the clues and the treasure locations!
We created Hidden Secrets because of our love for puzzles and treasure hunts and community-play. Our goal is to bring a little more fun and camaraderie to the world! Please reach out at any time if you have any further questions - and we promise to answer completely! Thanks so much!

So, has there been any word on this? They said Summer 2018, but summer's half-over and their FB page hasn't been updated in weeks.

So, has there been any word on this? They said Summer 2018, but summer's half-over and their FB page hasn't been updated in weeks. I had contacted them recently and this is part of the reply email:" We plan to launch this 7-day Prelude game with a $1,000 cash reward in July! It's nearly ready to submit to the app stores. Once we have a confirmed launch date, I'll be sending out official notice. I'll be sure to provide you with extra detail and would greatly appreciate your mentioning it on your site!
Because our game is so unique, we decided to launch this Prelude game as a fun preview for the longer, 30-day game that will launch soon afterwards. We hope it will provide us with some great feedback, get people excited, and provide some anticipation for the main event!" -- That was at the end of June. I realize July is almost over, so it seems there might be another delay. Oh.....The struggles and obstacles of business... I can understand it...and all good. I admire their enthusiasm for the project and hope it turns successful.

Well, here's hoping. :/ I have high hopes for this hunt, but IME getting delayed while contact with developers drops off is usually sign of a game in trouble. And the whole prelude thing sounds to me like dropping a glorified beta onto the app store and letting the community fish out the bugs themselves in advance of the "real" release. But, whatever. Not like I'm paying anything to wait for them to get their act together, right? I just hope they don't do something flagrantly stupid like code the answers into the app itself so that the winner is the first person to hack into it and pull out the correct answers. Or making a limited number of possible answers so the winner is instead the hacker who creates a plugin to submit answers as fast as the app can accept them.

I heard from a founding member, and they still plan to hold a 'pre-launch' hunt, I assume, to continue to try and gain an audience for the larger hunts. They said they will forward more information soon.
Anyone who is an entrepreneur understands not everything goes as planned when starting a business. I, myself, understand completely, and admire them for their effort. If ever enough interest is generated for their hunt, I feel it will be awesome.
I wish them the best success and an eventual launch....
I will keep everyone updated if I hear more....

Members of the mailing list got an e-mail today formally announcing the 7-day prelude- which I'm still convinced is a way to ferret all the bugs out- and the 30-day "real" hunt to follow. But still no release dates on either, except that the real hunt is apparently still slated for 2018. Which may not be such a great idea with winter just around the corner- I have visions of irritated hunters traipsing around their neighborhoods in freezing cold weather, trudging through snowdrifts and braving icy sidewalks in an attempt to track down pages. And then trying to tap those pages on their screens while wearing gloves.
I also have to say that I'm less than convinced that the whole monetization scheme is going to work; play for free, pay for hints is a good enough idea for Candy Crush and its' ilk, but I'm not sure it'll work in an environment where the puzzles are an obstacle between the player and the game they came for. It's a double bind; if they make the puzzles too easy, nobody will pay, but if they make them too hard people will quit in a huff and make noise online about how the game is hamstrung by cash-grabbing, making potential new players stay away. I wouldn't be surprised if they transition to an ad-based of pay-per-hunt model at some point, maybe even before initial release.

Some things just required a deeper dive than expected; however, we are happy to announce that we are in the home stretch now! Our app is running smoothly nearly all of the time and . . . . . . it's time now to let you know our plan. You are the first to know! In celebration of our upcoming official game launch, Hidden Secrets is hosting a seven day, limited play, sneak peek PRELUDE treasure hunt. 7 day PRELUDE to Hidden Secrets: Escape In Time The Prelude is a lead-up to our full campaign game, Hidden Secrets: Escape In Time, launching soon after and including a 30-day adventure with cash prizes of up to $100,000 USD! The Prelude game will be free to play on both iPhone and Android. It will include 7 journal pages for 7 days of play . . . a window into just a bit of the "story before the story". Also - we'd love to hear your feedback! After playing the 7-day game, please check out the optional survey in the Prelude game (see in Settings) if you'd like to contribute ideas to our future games.
