I always thought the fox's fur looks odd under his neck. I've always wondered if this was some clue ...maybe some geography one could see on a map...like the path of rivers or walking trails.

That's a great thought ana. The whole body of the fox looks contorted. Like what is that under his neck? We see his tail laying in front..so it doesn't seem to be that.....but if it's a leg, there is no foot, just fur... it's just weird looking as you say. I like the idea the reason why is that his entire neck area could be the matching of a map location.......

13 keys. 13 "holes" on each black tree trunk. Notice he is looking at the tree with Orange, Red, and yellow leaves. The borders are also those same colors.

Plus the other tree looks like it has 13 keys on it...one is just a portion of it. Maybe the number 13 is significant here as you suggest. Good eyes.

its one of 4....and in the one with 2...could be the amount of things he has in the chest

I think the veins in his neck look like Morse code. There are long lines, short lines, and the one line on the other side of his neck could be where a new letter starts. I didn't notice the 13 knots before; good catch.
Any guesses as to what that weird appendage is on Fandango? It's not his tail because that's lying along the ground. Not a paw. Weird.

I like the idea the reason why is that his entire neck area could be the matching of a map location....... The fox on page 5 does match the roads on the map. Start by looking for his head, with the tip of his ear being the bridge to the mainland. You can see his 'nose' pointing up. You can follow the curved road down from the tip of his 'nose' as it scoops down his 'back' and back up to his 'hip' at Bar Harbor. The other side of his neck goes from the base of that ear (Town Hill) to Somesville. His 'elbow' is the road from Somesville to Beech Mtn. Compare the base of his tail on the right to the shape of Schooner Point on the map. They are a perfect match. I posted this in another thread as well. The whole fox is odd-shaped - his funny foot lands about on Aunt Betty Pond. The odd markings on his neck that ana mentioned could be rivers to the right of the road that runs between Town Hill and Somesville, as well as the road that goes right from Somesville and swoops down and up along the top of Somes Sound. Even the shape of the Fox's den matches the general shape of the top of the island.

Thinking about the 13 keys. There are 16 images in the book (not counting cover or drawn map). Maybe there are 13 pages that are KEY to this hunt?

. Why does Fandango follow his nose... for pleasure ( instead of treasure )?

Looking at the border message "For Pleasure" on p. 5, I couldn't help noticing that it could make "Fop ruler sea," which might tell us that the Fop is actually Neptune. Or it tells us that the same hint in this border is similar to a hint in the "I rule the sea" border on p. 7.
So I looked at the Neptune borders. There were lots of possibilities but I finally worked my way up to this:
Deep down / I rule the sea / a mystery / sceptre in hand
Hidden treasure sat where Apple Deceit Synonym
The answer to this would be (I believe) Eden, of course. If this is correct, at least we can narrow that down.
But I keep coming up with other possibilities. Probably too vague to be useful.

Anagrams are always interesting because given a long enough string of letters, you can come up with a phrase that may somehow relate to whatever theory you're working on. I think there is so much opportunity for confirmation bias in this particular hunt where there is just so much to consider. I've gone down a couple of paths that I think are ultimately incorrect, but wow, there sure is a lot of stuff that looks to confirm those wrong paths when I start looking for it! But it's still fun to find new things! So thanks for sharing! Your phrase seems like a neat riddle. And there is a point of interest symbol on that page, so maybe the border phrases in pages with point of interest symbols should be looked at for other riddles? For this one, there is the potential for confirmation (bias?) that you are on the right track: 1) The last line on Page 49 says "Adam out of Eden." The next word is "hell" so perhaps another biblical reference. 2) There is an apple on the Key page which I assumed was just an allusion to Newton given the Davinci drawing just below it. But perhaps the arrow pointing to the apple isn't suggestive of it falling but rather an explicit sign pointing to its importance. Notice there are no motion lines suggesting it is falling, and the arrow is a dotted line - similar to what you would find on a treasure map. 3) The last word of Page 28 is "God". Happy hunting!

. On p. 11, there is an Arrow pointing from the A in the border, to the Apple.
(I think it could also be a fun way of referencing da Vinci, Newton, and the Vitruvian Man, but all those things seem like specialized knowledge, so shouldn't be necessary for the puzzle)

I always thought the fox's fur looks odd under his neck. I've always wondered if this was some clue ...maybe some geography one could see on a map...like the path of rivers or walking trails. i also think there is something about his neck also. Or the H in His? Last night I think i found a possible clue I haven’t heard mentioned yet. (If it has I apologize). In the text it says “So, now that you and I have crossed paths, I’ll help you open up your eyes”. If you look the U and I on the border text are perfectly level...like the I perfectly dissects the U. If U and I cross paths. It draws a line right thru his neck. But if you go one step further with the “no Fox is an island” text followed by “no fox an island” you see the “is” has been taken out. Is that telling you to take the “is” out of “his” (which the text also led you to by crossing the u and I) leaving you with an H? His neck does look like a river network...along with the sketch on page 13 obviously.
