Not sure who this "deleted" character was, but I will respond to this old post. I find it interesting that Forrest begins the book with the I am almost 80 and I find it amusing that I said it that way discussion. Lincoln's four score way of saying 80 (ok, four score and seven) was also interesting. I wonder if Forrest starts his book by drawing attention to Lincoln.

To expand on Goldilocks list: the 2010 Irene Rawlings lunch was Tuesday, July 13th, 2010, plus or minus a day. Irene was in Santa Fe on that Tuesday for a book-signing at 5 pm at Garcia Street Books, so that day is probably the most likely one for their lunch.
For those that have been pondering whether Forrest hid the treasure in 2003 (since that's 15 years after he got cancer), there are a couple good pieces of data that conflict with that theory. We have all heard anecdotal evidence that multiple people saw the chest in Forrest's vault after that date (e.g. Shiloh, Doug), but I've never read specific dates (even rough ones) about when the chest was seen by these witnesses. However, Craig Childs *did* see the Wetherill bracelet in Forrest's vault in late May 2009. That doesn't address whether the treasure chest was still at Forrest's home at that time, but it would at least mean the silver bracelet with 22 turquoise beads would have to have been added after May 2009.
The FBI raid was a couple weeks later, and if we are to believe Kris's (Kpro's) info about the FOIA, then the chest was still there at the time of the raid.
Another tidbit which I posted about last year (can't remember if it was here, Dal's or THOR): Valerie Plame Wilson didn't move to Santa Fe until 2006 (a year after she resigned from the CIA). Like Doug Preston she has seen the chest in Forrest's vault. So there's a post-2003 witness for you with a date no earlier than 2006.

I find it interesting that a member of the CIA turns up again (even a retired one) all these years after Forrest was supposedly a member. It makes me question whether he was still a member of the CIA while doin art exchanges with Russia. The CIC morphed into the CIA and there is a CIC notable agent called Foxtrot that is referred to as an Art Dealer, no actual name provided although J.D. Salinger and Henry Kissinger are on that list. Is Forrest Foxtrot? Was Forrest actually retired while running the art gallery in Santa Fe? Remember the gypsy magic story where he goes down and spies on the girls dancing? Confirmation bias or a lead to explore? Time will tell. I am near the bottom of a third glass of Malbec and usually only manage one. Someone remind me tomorrow whether I was coherent. I better put the phone away before I tell you about...

I've read no credible first-hand evidence that Forrest ever worked for the C.I.A. I don't rule out the possibility; I only say that there is no verifiable evidence out there, and I think the speculations about it are based on really weak evidence, motivated to make the Fenn story unnecessarily more fantastic than it already is.
