Although it was asked 'from his car'--- did he walk less than a few miles one way or all total? We know he made two trips from his car.....
What do you think?

I need someone to point that out for me... 1,500' is not 0.75 miles How many steps are in a mile? 5,280 feet, or 1,760 yards = 1 mile

Stride depends on height, load, altitude and terrain slope, so I'd say the number of steps or strides is irrelevant since it's searcher-dependent. Jenny's question cuts to the heart of the problem: was Forrest's "less than a few miles" one-way, round trip, or double-round trip? Since Forrest didn't qualify his answer, I favor total distance traveled, with one-way distance the next best option.
The reason I favor total distance traveled is his other related ATF where he says if you can't make two round trips to your solve in several hours, don't go (paraphrased, but very close).
So how far can a 79-year-old man hike at altitude in "several" hours, probably off-trail, including chest-hiding time? 3 miles one way (for instance) is patently absurd, since it means 12 miles total and over 6 hours to complete. I'm therefore confident the chest is less than a mile from where he parked his rental sedan, and so he hiked less than 4 miles.

If you smoke, double Forrest's time estimates. ;-) (Or did he already take that into consideration, figuring that treasure hunters tend to be smokers? The distance keeps getting shorter and shorter...)

Forrest says he walked less than a few miles It's seems weird for Forrest to bring up the definition for few "Scant.". Ok a few is more then one but not many more then one. Ok then 1.1 miles is a few now if I use Scant with these numbers 1.1 A whole is 1.1 take away 25%, Of 1.1 because of scant,a distance of less then a few miles would be around 3500ft to 4500ft in hiding the Tc.

I'm therefore confident the chest is less than a mile from where he parked his rental sedan I am curious about where Forrest said he was in a rental car. I haven't been following closely lately and just didn't know he had said anything about renting a car.

That's up in the air you can't figure that one out only if you New what day and year and month he hide it you might be able to.

Hi TxTH! I don't know that Forrest has come right out and admitted he rented a car, but he did say he drove a sedan when he hid the treasure, and I'm not aware that he owned a sedan (other than the Bullet's brother, which he didn't acquire until well after the chest was hidden). As a long-time Fenner, I'm sure you know the relevant quote from the Moby Dickens bookshop video, but for the benefit of others here following along I'll share my transcript. This is about 34 minutes into the video:
"Forrest, we got a question from your online fan base that we outta address too."
FF: "Who is it?" Questioner: "This one is anonymous." FF: "OK. Boy I'm in trouble now." Questioner: "Was the car, you walked back to after hiding the treasure, rented?" FF: "Was it rented?" Questioner: "Was it rented." FF: "You know, that's the first time I've been asked that question. But I can’t tell you how many times I've thought about that. That's why I've told people that I buried the treasure ... that I hid the treasure chest, when I was either 79 or 80 years old because I don't want the exact date to be known because I'm afraid someone will go check the rental car records and how many miles did Mr. Fenn put on the truck or the car, and so I don't answer those kind of questions, but shoot that person that sent that email."
