I get the feeling that the cross is above ground level, but still have no idea where to look, I’ve been trying to use the final clue to find something within the book and other clues but nothing as of yet.
I currently have a solution that I'm really happy with but I 100% agree with you on idea of facing South East. Not least because I now realise I was looking at the location map I was using slightly the wrong way round and your idea really works well with my solution. Of course, because I'm currently convinced of my solution, I could simply be trying to crowbar other people's logic into it But I do like it as it's a much more clean idea than the two truths I was sort of hoping it was!

After spending a large part of the day reading kindle books on lateral thinking and then going back to The Oracle this evening, I feel like I’ve had a bit of a Eureka moment and I think I now know what the answer is and that I can “pinpoint the treasure”... The only problem is that I haven’t yet found “the truth”. I feel like I understand a couple of the clues a lot better now and it’s starting to make a bit more sense, especially all the clues about it being in plain sight, the devil being in the detail, and facing the truth before you can find the answer. Clue 30 seems to fit in with it as well.
I still think the stars are the key to finding “the truth”, they are too strategically placed not to be important.

Lateral thinking really worked for me. That and stepping away from it for a couple of months to concentrate on work. Coming back to it with fresh eyes and not reading into every tiny detail gave me the shape of one vital 'jigsaw piece' and it all came together after that. God knows what approach I'm going to use next, as what I have now works so well to me.
Update: Turns out I was wrong yet again I'll just have to look at my pieces and come up with a new approach!
