In Forrest’s book, Seventeen Dollars a Square Inch, Forrest mentions the color Brown. It proves he has thought about this color, and not just casually. The Question is, does Forrest apply the same meaning to the word Brown in the poem as he did in the book? What do you think? Here is the clip in the book: “Brown is a neglected color. The dictionary says it is ‘any group of colors between red and yellow.’ Go into any art store and try to find a tube of brown paint; you’ll find sienna, Van Dyck, madder, umber, and ocher but never just plain dark or light brown. It is the color of autumn and I like it. So I thought I’d give brown a special distinction and do a painting in shades of brown. Of course I used tubes of sienna, Van Dyck, madder, umber, and ocher.” (I chatted about the color Brown and more on the book here: mysteriouswritings.com/experiencing-seventeen-dollars-a-square-inch-by-forrest-fenn/ )

Is the location of 'home of Brown', just a place of neglect? A location Forgotten?

I should also mention.... in the front of the book is:
"This book is dedicated to all of the warped and broken wooden boards that lay lost and forgotten beside the many barns and covered bridges that were so loved by Eric Sloane, and to the rusted nails whose stories he didn't live to tell."
Maybe it was dedicated to the home... of Brown.....

I believe Forrest used deeper meaning's on all the clues in his poem. If you scan the poem at face value, you will be over whelmed by the possabilities. No, I believe you must delve deeper into the poem as with all poems. There are many scenarios, that is why no one has found the treasure chest. They just haven't hit the correct one yet. I am going on a BOTG on the 17th, where I will be testing my theory in one of two places I know that fit the poem. I do not say it is there. But it is a good spot to go see anyway.

I definitely think the feeling of Brown is the way a child feels about the furthest recesses in a closet. Safe, secure, hidden, and a little giggly about it. I don't know if I would say neglected, perhaps just a place that with age grows further from our reach but never beyond the grasp of memory & fondness. Jenny, your ability to write kind of takes me to that place as well

In the forrest you have many tree's, but a fallen tree or tree's and lumber is always called wood, as in dead wood.

"If you are brave and in the wood": sounds like the opposite of "petrified". :-)

Put in below the home of brown. Put in below the home of rainbow. put in below the home of trout. It's nothing but indicating a river crossing. The home of brown trout is wherever they are suspended in water. Below the home of brown trout is the river bottom. If your feet are on the river bottom, you/your feet, are put in the water below the home of brown. Fact.. Brown trout can not swim under peoples feet.

I always thought it was interesting that in tea with Olga, he discusses Red Tea, Black, tea, and Green Tea. Whats interesting is those 3 colors together make the color Brown. Like @jenny said, its never assigned its own color. What i always find interesting in reading some of the solves posted, is quite a few of them have mountains encircling there solve spot. Those mountains are Black Mountain, Red Mountain, and Green mountain... Just a thought
