So what state/city do we start in?
California? New York? Louisiana? Kentucky? Georgia? Virginia? Pennsylvania? Texas?
As of now, I've figured that part out, at least.
Now where do I start once I'm there?

In the one video by Pete, it is said that once the 'City' is known (which is given maybe 15 different ways in the first 3/4 of the book) that then from there you do what the characters did in the last part of the story.....which includes solving those few bits of code.
PA? ...hmmmm..... I didn't see a clue for that state....I suppose I will have to look more...if in case it would be here (where I am from)...lol

There is some information hidden in several places in the book identifying specific areas. It is not clear to me if it is a starting, intermediate, or ending area. As indicated by Jenny, we know it is important to know the final location. I don't know if we have to know the route, to determine that location. Is it a step-by-step process?
I am also getting very strong hits in several areas, but not sure if I solved correctly. One hit was next to a very interesting looking (unusually shaped) quarry.

mm,
Are you saying that you've figured out that the starting place is one of the states you've listed?

And does today's update from the author about the smoky mountains play a part? Anybody else notice that this Facebook post by Pete from March 20th about the great smoky mountains has mysteriously disappeared? Did he delete it (bc it was too revealing?) does anybody remember what it was about or what this gist of it was? And was there a reference to the great smoky mountains in the book somewhere? For some reason I remember it being in the book but for the life of me I can't seem to find it. Maybe it was just the post I read. I thought it was something about Lane saying he vacationed in the great smoky mountains. Or maybe Nelson.

I missed this Facebook post. Can someone give a bit more detail?
Maybe he took it down because he thought it might give an advantage

I missed this Facebook post. Can someone give a bit more detail? Maybe he took it down because he thought it might give an advantage It was something to the effect of discussing a vacation to the great smoky mountains, in the style of those other posts discussing places mentioned in the book, like New Orleans, the Hermitage hotel, Babbitt, etc. (these ones are still on Facebook to view) For some reason, I remember it being Pete referencing a part of the book where the great smoky mountains are mentioned by either Lane or Nelson. But I can't find that in the book now.
