Interesting. He will be disappointed if it's found, but seems to want to see it found in his lifetime.

In a previous 2011 article by Margie Goldsmith, Forrest was quoted as saying: "If it comes back, I'm going to grab a pocketful of sleeping pills, take a treasure chest filled with treasure and a copy of my bio; and I'm going to walk out into the desert. Sometime they'll find my bones and the treasure, but my bio will be inside the box, so at least they'll know who I was."In this new one, its... “if it comes back, I’m going to grab 52 sleeping pills, a bottle of single malt Scotch, fill a treasure chest with booty, and a copy of my autobiography, and I’m going to walk deep into the forest and end it all there.”Why the differences?

I think the original one pigeon-holed New Mexico as the treasure location. The real question is... Did he make the change as a distraction from JUST New Mexico, or to point people to the other states where the treasure may be?

To be honest I don’t think Margie Goldsmith’s words are that reliable. She has made several misquotes in verbal interviews as well. There is a radio interview on the Old Santa Fe Trading Co website and in it she says he was told 2 years ago he had cancer....I can’t find the date of this radio interview anywhere. Could it have been 1986? Probably not because she was there to discuss the book and the treasure hunt.

It's strange because it's given as a quote.....not a rephrasing by her....
And from my experience with Forrest, I know he will do things to see if anyone is 'listening' or 'reading'.....
I can see him saying to Margie something like-- instead of using that same old quote, use this one instead----

Good question, Jenny. July 1, of last year, she relayed this to us:*He planned to take a bottle of single-malt scotch, 52 sleeping pills and walk out into the desert mountains carrying the treasure chest; there, he’d end it all.* - - - www.forbes.com/sites/margiegoldsmith/2018/07/01/hello-world/#6d8b47d839ac ….although not a "quote" this July, 2018 article contains the embellishments of 52 pills, a bottle of Scotch; and as the earlier article, he was going into the desert; but no mention of the bio. So, if it came back, was he going into the desert? Or the forest? Or, does it matter?

Part of me thinks we cannot rely on secondary sources of information and should only trust Forrest's words, directly from his mouth. On the other hand, this is a treasure hunt and Forrest does have the capability of feeding new information to us through the media or other avenues, when he's asked the same old questions. Keeps us on our toes for sure but can be time consuming fact checking the fact checkers.

Yes, that does seem the likely reason for the change of 'Desert' to 'Forest'....... I like the Montana/Wyoming area, but those early articles often only refer to New Mexico as the location for his hidden treasure chest, and Forrest didn't do much to correct those thoughts..... this didn't seem to happen until the Chase gained a larger audience.....

Thanks for that link, Locolobo..... missed that one.... seems like it was a progression.... much like the value of the chest... it started out as $1 million and grew from there...lol...
