It might just be that she is pointing us to the New England States, as that is where the proxy item is supposed to be...
However, where are the book-related clues?

However, where are the book-related clues? I was expecting a book cipher -- and that might be coming later -- or an acrostic, not riddles. (Did i mention how I hate riddles?) I think there will be some benefit to reading the book *if* there are pointers being referenced, either directly or indirectly. Take the last line: "A father's direction does not always state / The place in which the treasure awaits." In the book, there are snippets of memories about her father, such as a scene where he tells her to go back to gardening. If his order is to head to a garden, and our clue is to dismiss his direction, perhaps there is a garden which points us away from the treasure tree. I am only just past halfway thru reading the book, but now I'll be more on the lookout for passages with the potential for a double purpose.

Good catch!
Owls Head State Park in ME Dinosaur State Park in CT Mine Falls State Park in NH Emerald Lake State Park in VT pointed light?? Natural Bridge State Park in MA Tassel Top State Park in ME oak on a ledge?? Nickerson State Park in MA Wolfe's Neck State Park in ME Snake Den State Park in RI
So what I think it means is this...her dad worked as Director of the Connecticut Department of Parks and Recreation, and they named a campground after him in Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, CT. I think "a father's direction does not always STATE the place in which the treasure awaits" is simply telling us we can rule out CT.
What do you think?

I have pointed light possibly being at Fort Point State Park (has Ft. Point Light) in Stockton Springs MA and I didn't have the snake den yet. But lists match up. Like your idea about it not being in CT. Its supported by your insight with the book narrative and park clues. Nice job!

Actually even though the book says he worked for the Connecticut Department of Parks and Recreation, other online articles say it's the Connecticut Department of *State* Parks and Recreation. So there you go, an even better match to the clue.
Yes, it must be Oakledge Park, but I can't find anything that says it's a state park but that might just be an oversight.

Yeah....maybe not a state park....outlier, if we play which one is not like the others. But I still think your dead on with it being a state park, not in Connecticut.

Well...I was thinking it meant somewhere not in CT, but not necessarily a state park. But you may be right.
