Forrest was asked, 'What is the one thing all searchers are missing?' Forrest answered that the thing we are missing is: "It's important to the story, but I'm not going to tell you what it is. I'm saving that for the person who finds the treasure. But it's significant, I think." So it seems we all are missing 'something' to the overall story of the Chase? And understanding this piece of information seems to be crucial in finding the chest? Source from kpro/cow video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6E8Fu9wX2g&feature=youtu.be

Is it what makes the location special?

. I could see it having the interpretation you explained. I had in the back of my mind, that there is another thing Forrest said, that there is something in the chest that he's saving for the one who finds it, or am I remembering that incorrectly?

I think there is the underlying puzzle, and a larger story layered on. He has hinted at this before. I don't recall the exact quote, but he was asked if he thought the finder would understand why the spot was special. He replied something like "I am not sure." Are we talking about the same thing here? If so, he seemed to hint before that the finder may not need to get the big picture, whereas now he thinks the finder naturally will.

He's said there is something special in the chest for the finder that noone knows about. I think that is different than what he's talking about here.

The Thrill Of The Chase book holds the secret. You can read it as it is written and that's what I did the first few times, then I started to recognize that the stories have a completely different story and meaning imbedded within themselves.

Dear Astree: What are searchers missing??
Although fenn almost always uses “special” to characterize his feelings for the location, he has used another word sparingly to describe it.
Synonyms for ‘dear’: close, near
Shaun Whitehead, in August 2013, did report that Fenn told him in an email: "People will be surprised when they find out where it is." Put that in yer pipe and draw on it! That would be an interesting "part of the story"! Hope ya have a happy and prosperous new year…..loco

MW Featured Question (10/6/2014): "Are there any objects placed in the Bronze Chest that are connected, or have meaning to the place the chest is hidden? ~ Mike" FF: "No Mike, everything in the chest is straight forward and visual, except my autobiography, which some might find dull. Oops, I forgot, there is one thing in the chest that I have not talked about except to say I don’t want to talk about it. It is something saved especially for the person who solves the clues. I think that person will be pleased when she sees it. f"

The part(s) of the story that are missing involve the circumstances on why FF needs to return the treasure to that spot. When FF thought he might die from cancer, he planned to return the treasure to that special spot. There is more to the story than he wanted to take the treasure with him. The money/treasure could have been used for many possible things(family/charity/museums). IMO, he is full-filling a promise made long ago, even before he had cancer. But what are the circumstances made behind the promise/debt?
There are a few words in the poem that mean "key". One of them is answer(s)=solve=fulfill.

Jenny, I agree with your interpretation - he's saving it for the person who finds the treasure, and I'll go a step further and say he's saving it because once found, the person who does find it will not be able to remain silent and Fenn knows this.
