Also is any one looking for a frog playing a tiny jeweled flute lol

I'm pretty sure it's a flute we are looking for, yes. Especially since the poem in the introduction is from Mozart's "The Magic Flute".
Not sure about the frog playing it though, but that would be fitting for sure!

My original thought was that the item is a flute, but the instructions for what to do if you find it are to photograph the front and the back. A flute doesn't really have a front or a back. My bet is on a medallion or something similar, perhaps depicting a flute. I believe the token he hid in his previous treasure hunt was a medallion, so perhaps he did something similar here.

On page 45, Fred and Myrtle are mentioned. There is a famous Fred and Myrtle "Flutey". So I too think we are looking for a flute.

Did you know that Prince's real name is Prince Rogers NELSON?

On page 45, Fred and Myrtle are mentioned. There is a famous Fred and Myrtle "Flutey". So I too think we are looking for a flute. Most people's first guess would be a flute or suling. But Pete made a point of saying (only) a few people had correctly guessed what the hand-crafted object is, but that most had not. That would seem to rule out a flute, or any kind of frog for that matter. Now, the Fred and Myrtle Flutey find is an excellent one -- well done. Their Paua house was in Bluff at the extreme southern end of the South Island of New Zealand. (My wife and I were at the southernmost point of South Island last November -- Slope Point -- but didn't get closer to Paua than Invercargill.) Given Pete's mention of a bicycle trip through New Zealand in the book, it would seem to be more than just mere coincidence.

Did you know that Prince's real name is Prince Rogers NELSON? Nelson is also a major city in South Island, New Zealand. The New Zealand connections are piling up, aren't they?

That's how it works, isn't it?

Yep: the nature of rabbit holes. Limited only by the ingenuity of the victim. However, New Zealand already figured with my solution, so Fred & Myrtle's Paua house (abalone to us westerners) is just another check mark. Or confirmation bias. ;-)

Prince was still alive when Pete finished his book. Does that change anyone's mind about the use of purple rain as clues.. IE: it could not be a clue for a city thAt held a Tribute to Prince

Well, Pete is from the Twin Cities area, so Prince references are not unexpected. Probably the most famous person to ever come out of Minnesota.

New Zealand was to be in the book no matter which cities his finger pointed toward. Whatever you connect to N.Z. is a clue solver? How?

You say Pete was already going to put New Zealand in the book -- I had not read this. Did he say this in one of his interviews? I realize Pete has very likely been there, but that wouldn't be sufficient excuse to include it in his book. Pete has been in practically every U.S. state, and probably quite a few foreign countries, but you wouldn't expect him to insert details of all the places he's been. I'm open to the possibility that he did say something to the effect that he was always going to include NZ no matter what -- but I'd be interested in the source of that admission.

Toppop: okay, no problem. That being the case, NZ has been a clue for my city, so the fact that New Zealand shows up in the story in at least two ways -- one blatant, one subtle -- was encouraging to me.
