Day #1 (Chapter 3: 80 miles + miles then drove to park after dinner (we'll guess 10 miles)): New Orleans, LA to Baton Rouge, LA (80 miles)Day #2 (Chapter 9: 100 miles): Baton Rouge, LA to Ferriday, LA (100 miles)Day #3 (Chapter 13: 92 miles + miles to Butterscotch Clipper (we'll guess 12 miles)): Ferriday, LA to Bastrop, LA (92 miles)Day #4 (0 miles): Stayed there for the day (0 miles) Day #5 (Chapter 20: 114 miles + 45 miles = 159 miles): Bastrop, LA to Pine Bluff, AR (114 miles) + Pine Bluff, AR to Little Rock, AR (45 miles)Day #6 (Chapter 22: 55 miles): Little Rock, AR to Hot Springs, AR (55 miles)I used the dots on the book cover with New Orleans to Hot Springs (Pine Bluff, LA should be Pine Bluff, AR): Exactly what I had. Great minds think alike!!! I really feel like I was real close to finding it and I really feel like it was at one of the four places that I searched (Balanced Rock Trail, Garvan Woodland Gardens, and the other two areas on the LOViT trail). I'm looking forward to seeing if I was right or was completely off.

Remember how he called the French people in the canoe "Frenchies"? Look what's on the Central Ave. (the main road through downtown Hot Springs):

Anybody want to share other solves for Hot Springs other than the zip code and Hodaddy? Didn't Pete say there were about 15 clues for the city? Congrats to the winner!! There are a ton. 1. Cover of book - spots lead from New Orleans to Hot Springs with perfect mileage used in the book 2. Zip Code in the starting date = 71902 3. Hodaddy Clue = Hot Springs 4. Hermitage Hotel, Nashville, TN: Step 1. Nelson stays at the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, TN for a conference and first finds Buffalo Trace bourbon. Step 2. Hermitage Hotel was named because of Andrew Jackson's Hermitage Estate. Step 3. In 1832, President Andrew Jackson made Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas the first Federal Reservation in the area surrounding the city of Hot Springs in an effort to conserve its natural resources. Step 4. Hot Springs 5. Bourbon Street: Step 1. Nelson declares his apartment Bourbon St. for their treasure hunt. Step 2. Bourbon St. refers to New Orleans. Step 3. Andrew Jackson commanded the War of 1812 army that overwhelmed British at the Battle of New Orleans. Step 4. In 1832, President Andrew Jackson made Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas the first Federal Reservation in the area surrounding the city of Hot Springs in an effort to conserve its natural resources. Note: Basically, anything that points to New Orleans or Andrew Jackson can also indirectly point to Hot Springs, Arkansas. 6. I am mad North-North-West Hot Springs, Arkansas has two mountains named North Mountain and West Mountain 7. Rock-eating poem clue changes north and west in the two versions Hot Springs, Arkansas has two mountains named North Mountain and West Mountain 8. In the audio version of the book, when saying Chapter 23, the audio voice says, " Holy Sh%$#". Hot Springs 9. Calls French people in the canoe "Frenchies" There is a restaurant on the main road (Central Avenue) that is called Frenchies. I can go on, but you get the point on how easy they start to rack up.

Thanks for the response..I live in New Orleans and even though there seemed to be clues for a couple of parks, I am hoping it wasn't here because I'd kick myself!!

Did anyone know that the city of Hot Springs itself is considered a National Park? That whole area is a National Park. I didn't know that until I arrived there, went to the information desk inside one of the old historic bath houses, and asked "Where is the entrance to the National Park?" The lady looked at me like I was crazy (well, I guess that is debatable).
She then said, "You're in it. The whole town is a National Park."
It is an interesting little place.
We ate dinner in the Ohio Club the one evening that we were there. I sat right next to Al Capone. Did anyone else go there?

On my first trip May 5th, I wasn't able to because I was only with my kids and you have to be 21 to get in. For our second trip two weeks ago, we stayed at The Waters Hotel next door and I was able to go get a burger and a drink with my wife.
It's a pretty neat place and you can just feel the gangster history in there.

I went there as well during my April trip. Had myself a bourbon sidecar and a Reuben. The Reuben was as good as any New York City deli that I'm used to!

Am I the only one who searched in Rayne, LA? Hundreds of connections between the town and book. If interested you can pull up the history of Rayne document from the city website.

Does anyone else think that the dots and lines on the cover look like a Treble Clef music symbol? Day #1 (Chapter 3: 80 miles + miles then drove to park after dinner (we'll guess 10 miles)): New Orleans, LA to Baton Rouge, LA (80 miles)Day #2 (Chapter 9: 100 miles): Baton Rouge, LA to Ferriday, LA (100 miles)Day #3 (Chapter 13: 92 miles + miles to Butterscotch Clipper (we'll guess 12 miles)): Ferriday, LA to Bastrop, LA (92 miles)Day #4 (0 miles): Stayed there for the day (0 miles) Day #5 (Chapter 20: 114 miles + 45 miles = 159 miles): Bastrop, LA to Pine Bluff, AR (114 miles) + Pine Bluff, AR to Little Rock, AR (45 miles)Day #6 (Chapter 22: 55 miles): Little Rock, AR to Hot Springs, AR (55 miles)I used the dots on the book cover with New Orleans to Hot Springs (Pine Bluff, LA should be Pine Bluff, AR): Agreed on the dot pattern. Did you find the cities by using clues in the story which then agreed with the mileage? Or did you use the mileage to find the closest city?

Did anyone find any bicycle rental and park that was the 40 (?) miles north ? Yes. Remember they made arrangements for the bicycles and then moved. If you double back from the Pinnacle State Park entrance and go 9 miles there are parking lots alongside the bike trail. They rode the trail to the State Park and then went 2 miles where they encountered the Butterscotch Clipper. Remember also they had to bear right at one point. This is a perfect fit, plus from here, inside the park, to Hot Springs is 55 miles. This is at Little Rock AR Thanks for the explanation and graphics. It fits. The problem I had was that I DID find a bike rental in Hot Springs (Parkside) which didn't seem to agree with Tom's statement that there were no bike rentals in the final destination (or did he say no good trails?). Either way, both exist in Hot Springs, or did I miss something. Thanks for your detailed posts.

txth, loved your video! Did you venture out on to the rocks? I went out on to the rocks, and down below them and around them. Once down below the rocks, I found what I believed to be the "rock narrows" where the character Nelson went through to meet with Judy, who was coming up the hill. Yes, I spent the majority of my time down below the rocks though I climbed around on top as well looking in crevices. Here is the picture I took of the narrow from the bottom looking up: s20.postimg.org/z400sh0ct/IMG_3093.jpgI had been trying to find a link to a video I thought I saw at the beginning of the hunt - it may have been in promotional info that was posted before the hunt. In the video, Pete was going into a rock narrows that is the one you posted, or very similar. I thought I may have imagined seeing it, but the picture you posted confirms what I saw. The link may have been removed about the time the hunt started.
