I am very new to this mystery...at first glance "blue apples" caught my eye...wondering if the english translation of pommes bleus would be closer to sad faces/heads as bleu means sad and a vernacular definition of pommes can mean faces or heads. Sort of the way we call a head a melon....Just a thought.
