The three bookshelf games, Captive Princess, Tournament, and Pathfinders, published by McLoughlin Brothers. in 1875, are designed and formed to mimic books when folded. McLoughlin Bros. made many of these triple style game books during the late-mid to late 1800’s. The instructions and pieces for the games were usually housed within the closed game boards and came within slipcases. When the game is spread open, the main game board is exposed as the top, and the inside or the flipside of the board contained the other two games. If placed on a shelf, the titles of the games can be seen written on the spine, like that of a book. Read more on the Mcloughlin Bros. Captive Princess...

Thirty-six cards, displaying various creatures from all across the world, are included in the antique 1900 Game of Wild Animals by Mcloughlin Bros. The game box illustrates one of these animals on its cover. A majestic looking Lion, with a Lioness, make for an attractive team to introduce the Wild Animals found inside the box. The cards are divided into six different sets containing six animals from each of the set’s locations. The object of the game is to collect as many complete sets as possible (called books), and have the most points. Read more on MW: Collectible Mcloughlin Bros. Card Game: Wild Animals

Card Game: Wild AnimalsIf you start hearing weird music and loud drums while playing this game...RUN!!!!! lol Seriously though Jenny, these games are fascinating. Some of them I have seen before but lots of them I have not. I was into the Avlon Hill and Simulations Publications Inc (SPI) board war gaming. Today many of those games or games very similar to them have moved to the computer. John Tiller has published many war games for the computer through HPS Simulations and his own software company. Today I spend a lot of time playing Ultimate General: Civil War on Steam.
