I definitely agree with you about the whole interpretation of everything being 'in the book.' In the podcast interview when the question was asked about everything being in the book, Pel didn't understand the question at first. Then when Steve gave an example of clues leading you to other web pages, Pel said that no, everything is included in the book. I agree that doesn't exclude external research like morse code, polybius squares, pictures of lenses, etc.
Thanks for that picture, BTW. I never knew before I saw it that 1:1.4D was a real lens notation or NIKKOR was a real brand. I always assumed the half of what we see at the top was NIKKON but actually it's only spelled with one K.
Also (posted this before on another thread): 44 19276.14 is the lat coordinate of the POI on the map near Jordan Pond. (The actual gatehouse is on the other side of the road, not where the POI symbol is).

When Fandango's ear is blown up that big, it looks like there's a face in the fish eye.

. I will still lmaintain that everything you need is in the book, although i dont think its completely true. There is some other knowledge (besides english) that i think one needs, and which the authors probably considered common (in my solve).
But..in . my first two points in previous post, i also meant to be implying that the external information can be useful, or confirming, if you inow what youre looking for. The lens is an example. There is very precise external information that i found extremely confirming on the p. 30 bookshelf, and the polybius solve p. 47. None is necessary, thats why i have the overhanging question as to why the authors put so many subpuzzles in the book. To help, confirm, or distract (while still being true)?
susb, the ear/ fish face i had noticed, and had a thought that it might be related to the p. 11 EYE KEY two triangular fish faces. Im not spending much time on that though.

Which could possibly align with the red mark that appears on Abanaki's map (the one in his hands looks to me like there is a red dot to the left of the sound in the middle of the island). This is a just a thought that I will file away in the back of mind for now...

I always thought it was hinting to lat.
I sometimes think that he put some really obvious things in the pictures to be examples of other things to look for. Like since DMS isn't hard to relate to Degrees, Minutes, Seconds and 44 19276.14 can easily be found to be the same spot as that POI, and it can pretty easily be found that the POI is NOT the location of the actual gatehouse, maybe this is meant to indicate that we are looking to create a number in that format, which will give the lat of the key. But I haven't been able to make anything of it.
Interesting about Abanaki; I'll have to give that more thought...

The only thing that doesn't sit well about the face being intentional: you'd really have to scan the picture and blow it up to see that. I don't think it would be recognizable from just looking at the book. With all Pel said about wanting to be fair to those without the internet, it seems to me he would make his hunt solvable just by looking.

I think this statement in the book says a lot, "But I just kept barking, "Where? Where? Where?" To many w's to be coincidence.

I think this statement in the book says a lot, "But I just kept barking, "Where? Where? Where?" To many w's to be coincidence. " Where? Where? Where?" is on page 29, not page 19 which is the topic for this thread, but I'll respond here. Sorry!Other "where" occurances also are suggestive of the WWW in a worldwide web URL address: p.29 - "Of this wide world. "So where would you explore," p.52 - "I've got a wide wet world where we can fly!"

All those W's. This page has a lot to offer. I feel that one of the GPS(DMS) coordinates comes from this page. The colored U-blocks and 3.14. Any thoughts on this???

Hi Astree, Would that extra language you are talking about happen to be German?

The "diagonal defect" that some have mentioned here looks to me like an actual line or fold going from the center of the bottom left star, through the center of the fox's right eye (the left eye on the page), continuing directly through the center of the long part of the key (seen in the reflection) and then finally through the center of the upper right star. The bottom lid of the fox's right eye looks disjointed along this line, almost as if the canvas itself was folded in two and each half was painted separately at this point. Interesting that the eye right through the fold line appears on the page with the text that says AN EYE REFLECTS ??
Another thought along the lines of the "FOREVER HELD"/"FOLD HERE" at the top: if you were reading "HERE" backwards, immediately "after" the word HERE is a V (pointing down?) which appears to be directly above a W at the bottom (pointing up?). Are we supposed to fold along a line connecting the point of the V and the center point of the W? Or fold along the diagonal line mentioned above? Or some combination? I've tried a bunch of ways on paper and with imaging programs but did not get anywhere.
[Related?: the same "FOREVER HELD" appears on page 55, with the V at the bottom directly below a T in the top, and interestingly that page is the backside of the Map page so if you fold this page you also end up folding the map page. Hmmm... More red herrings?]

More down this rabbit hole:
The arrows on the back of the WINDSONG camper appear to be parallel and perpendicular to the main diagonal line noted above.
The WNW pointing arrow on the camper in fact looks like it could also be pointing directly through the fox's eye that is also on the main diagonal line.
All of these angles seem like they're pointing 30 or 60 degrees off from horizontal/vertical, just as the 12 numbers on clocks do, just as the 12 zodiac constellations do in the night sky...

Hmmm... More red herrings?] I had previously posted about the FOLD code on this page, but didnt find specific instructions. your FOLD HERE V looks like a possibility... the red I to the right of AN EYE may be related ( if i recall, the flower petal polybius in that area give a related letter, i need to go back and review) There is a code ( 1927614 ) on the page that instructs to reflect the 3 letters of NOW to get 6 letters NOW WON, but i dont see it connected to FOLD HERE V.. will ponder

Can you clarify how 1927614 instructs to reflect NOW to NOW WON (or link to a post that does)? --------------------------------------- I note that the 1927614 can be used to generate 44d 19m 27.614s N, which seems to be the latitude of both the Point Of Interest SE of Jordan Pond on the map on p.57 and Norumbega Mountain (which interestingly seems to be at the very center of the map on the same page). Also of interest, the ISBN number on the Orange book on p. 30 (014029828) can be used to generate 68d 14m 29.828s W, which seems to be very very close to the longitude of the same Point Of Interest by Jordan Pond. It's interesting that this POI seems to have both coded lat and long. I still think there's more going on here with some message/riddle coded with some of the colored borders on some pages, but I'll throw out two possible sites to look for the key: 1. Obviously, the POI by Jordan Pond at the spot on the trail there located at 44d 19m 27.614s N, 68d 14m 29.828s W. After all this time, I'm sure people have already looked here and 40 paces south of here. 2. Perhaps less obviously, the point obtained by reflecting this POI across Norumbega Mountain (the center of the map, the center of the island, and perhaps the "eye" in the middle of everything). This reflected point ends up being 44d 19m 27.614s N, 68d 20m 58.56s W which is on land by Carter Nubble and Camp Beech Cliff between Long Pond and Echo Lake. Again interestingly, there seems to be a very small red-roofed structure within 100 feet of this spot (maybe an old abandoned shed? or a small building related to the small power lines that might run just to the north?). It's in the middle of forest and possibly unused. If I were anywhere near MDI, I might take a stroll to this structure, walk 40 paces south, and look around for anything interesting. I'd probably even look 40 paces north for anything interesting too. I'll note that you also find this spot by simply folding the map on page 56 across, with the seam going North/South through Norumbega Mountain=the middle of the map. If you do this, then the POI by Jordan Pond and the point I propose above touch each other. I think this spot is probably wrong because it looks like it's not on public property (though it does look like it's on a spot unused for a long time). But if somebody finds the key there, I'd appreciate a 10% commission. Similarly, if somebody gets arrested for trespassing on this spot, don't blame me. ------------------------ And if the key isn't at that location, I'll just throw out that I feel that Norumbega Mountain still may likely play a role here. . It's in the very center of the map. It almost looks like the map was drawn purposely to have it in the center. It almost looks like the dot in an i, or the dot in the middle of the traditional sun symbol of a dot with a circle around it. . It is shown on the Cadillac Mountain sign, on Harley Quinn's map, and on the map in the center of the "key" hole on page 11, and in all 3 cases for some reason the start of Norumbega is hidden (almost like the author was purposely trying to show it but not call attention to it). . There's a myth/legend that Norumbega is the lost Native American city of riches. The Myths and Legends book also has a POI mark on it for some unexplained reason. Certainly Norumbega Mountain is the center of the map. It could be that it is used as an origin for some combination of rotations and reflections of the POI point by Jordan Pond, with the specified method described in some coded messages. =============== Just for completeness, another possibility is reflecting the Norumbega mountain "eye" across the POI instead of reflecting the POI across Norumbega mountain. If you do this, you get this point (44d 19m 27.614s N, 68d 11m 15.36s W), roughly 100 feet from a public parking lot near the eastern coast...
