NPS is National Parks Service and a part of the Dept of Interior. NPS was established to protect our national treasures and history. I deal with NPS and their guidelines, with what I do for a living and passion, restoring historic properties. For the last 5 years or so, they have been through legislation and changing past interpretations of what is OK and now not OK to do and change that they are in charge of. Currently 1 of many hot points is Land Patents given to the early pioneers. Archaeologists were acquiring the Land Patents (using the legal system) issued before the Antiquities Act of 1906. Any Land Patents issued before then were free game. There are thousands of these that are currently on state and federal lands. Having the Land Patent issued in your name or whatever DBA gives you the right to keep all artifacts found and so on.
