I can only come up with two meanings.
I'm walking up a creek or I'm stuck or in trouble.
Would this mean." the end is ever lasting nigh could I get stuck here because of near this is the point that could be not far. and if so why?. Why would I be stuck from finding the creek that I'm post to be up in.What if there are no creek at all.Then this could mean It's referring I'm in trouble because I could walk right a pass the TC now that's too far to walk.

Heavy loads and water high could very well be something else then mountains and water.
