Thinking out loud with imagination.
It's about the natural resources. If not used wisely we all would be distinct. Giving back to the earth so it replenishes. Take what we can to keep the wealth (live) and then replenish it back. If we don't replenish we will end to cease. Go back to the beginning to replenish (think). Do your part. The part on the stage.
When a child's warm bath becomes cold she pulls the plug. The water goes down the drain. Where does it go after. Recycles to be replenished by man or not. Does it go to the tank? Does it go out side to move freely? Does it make it's way to the ocean? Evaporates and then fall down to earth once again to be used in the bath water?
Lewis and Clark expedition TTOTC. The creek seems to be in a hurry to get somewhere important. Skippy is always off doing something in a hurry like if he is trying to catch something.
Do we know where the water goes after we used it? Do we know the source of where it is coming from to travel to our homes? Old history one would go to it. Now we make it (water) come to us.
This is an example of one of many natural resources.
IMO the first stanza is not only talking about going in there to place the TC but about the riches new and old. The resources that created it.

I agree with most of this....I think you're on the right track about resources, but perhaps are missing part of it - if you think of "old and new" as "now and then" and then consider 'riches' or 'hint of riches' "now and then" it's easier to see 'boom and bust', a cycle of wealth and poverty because of the natural resources and lack of planning for the future should those resources dry up or no longer have demand to keep prices inflated.....living in the now and thinking it cannot end.

Rahrah!!!!! Think - brown study - woolgathering - riches new and old = Library These are all basically the same in the raw sense. Think = all the knowledge you have sitting on you shoulders Brown study = piecing that knowledge together for some purpose Woolgathering = seeking pieces of knowledge for later use Riches new and old = all the uses of original (old) knowledge and using that (woolgathering the old) for (new) greater knowledge Library = ALL OF THE ABOVE Of course, this is just one way of thinking. This is the first time I have given much thought to how they are all connected.
