Well....these are sort of like any of Fenn's words. People interpret them differently. Some people may think they were worth all the time and effort, others may find no meaning. I know that wasn't the answer you wanted. It's really not something I can answer. A lot of people are keeping quiet on the matter. It might be due to the amount of effort they put into decoding the puzzle, or they may believe the words hold important meaning. Initially, I solved some of the early steps, but hit a road block. I had some help/guidance from someone, who had put a lot of work into it. They asked me not to share the solution once I figured it out. I put it aside, and later finished solving it on my own, using the information they shared. Personally, and honestly, I was not all that impressed by the message. But I am not a huge super Chase fan. So others may feel differently. I wish I hadn't cut so much from the quote. IronWill was speculating about the specific value of approaching this step using Vigenere, which apparently means cycling through countless potential words and phrases associated with my man, Forrest Fenn. The value of his coded message? I guess we'll see when we get there. |

I am usually a lurker on the forums, but I really want this to get solved. I found something interesting;
Someone on another forum stated that the coded words break to ""A searcher must go to the site to find the treasure." I didn't believe it, but I had to at least reverse engineer an attempt. I played with several settings and found that if you input "MKAT..." as the cipher text and the above statement as the plaintext, the key breaks out to this "xmghbprulyknowwhemswtpzaqtmatzuxpxbfetnbhhdqbefdhuaf." Doesn't look like much, but in the back of Jenny's book where she has never before published words from Forrest there is a quote that nearly matches this (and it is 52 characters long). The quote is "If you truly know where its hidden, you don't need the directions." Notice the similarities between the "key" that breaks out and this quote. I can't figure out how this could happen by chance. Statistics tells me that this is highly unlikely, but I am not sure how this could have occurred. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I've been trying variants of this...
"Success with finding the treasure is by one who can best adjust" -52 "Success" is hidden and so is the "treasure"
it gave me this string which is pretty close to viable...

only have 2 V's.... 3Q's.... and 3Y's The fact that there are 5 J's kills it for me.
The finished message might have "Quest" in it as well as "Quickly" as well as "You" or "Why" ...or "trove", "ever", so I can somewhat deal with repeating V's, Q's, and Y's. But I cannot see 5 J's in the final message.

My understanding is that you used "MKATGBHUKYULSALILUMILVULARVJRIWOYSWBMYBSTLCCZFOXMYSWIPHKAXJZEVULXCCLALVUROCKBUQF " which is the final rearrangment of "SVRWYULOKKOZMIEAYULFUTIITYWBLBHKAVCAZUAUMWXCLLQFRMJMYPJLSVLCUSOKLLICSXBXACUHRBVG" Did you then you decode it using "A searcher must go to the site to find the treasure" as Vigenere key? I can't replicate the result of "xmghbprulyknowwhemswtpzaqtmatzuxpxbfetnbhhdqbefdhuaf" |

I used MKAT... as the Cipher text. I found an online Vigenere breaker that allows you to input the plain text and the cipher to create a key. The plain text (which is what should be displayed after the key is added) will generate a key. You are essentially finding a key using what you think the cipher breaks out to. The plan text I used was "A searcher must go to the site to find the treasure." Let me know if you have any more questions.

I have some theories that I would like to share with everyone. I finally got the book yesterday, and I found an irregularity.
The picture of the short and tall trees at the bottom of the DEDICATION page in the front of the book is odd because it does not correspond to any of the known (and solved) puzzles in the book.
If you read the 2nd paragraph from the bottom on page 12, Jenny describes the use of a Bacon Cipher. This is a method of coding a message by using only certain letters from a phrase. (for example "Red is good" would be inside of "ready this bag wood" if the key was "AABAB BBAA BBA BAAA."
Now, let's remember that the encrypted text after Forrest's forward says "seek high and low and you will find treasure." I think this is a reference to the high and low, or short and tall, trees.
She describes how the trees from the treasure hunt were used as the cipher for the clues for that specific treasure hunt. Now here is the interesting part... She leaves us trees on the dedication page. After reading the forum, I don't think they are associated with any other puzzles in the book. I think these trees may have something to do with how we are supposed to identify the key phrase. The sequence is STSTT TSTSS or ABABB BABAA. I have tried to apply it to the words on the dedication page and the encrypted text on the dedication page, but I haven't found anything yet.
If this helps someone identify the key, but you don't want to tell everyone, I understand. But hopefully you will be kind enough to throw me a bone if it helps you out!

I am noticing the "ruly know whe" of Bluffman's find. Maybe "truly know when" or "truly know where" if the correct phrase is used. because that would equate to ER MUST GO TO. so, instead of SEARCH as the first part of that suffix ER, Maybe it is another term for searcher. Like FINDER.
