Heidinu: Hah! Now you're just yankin' my chain. ;-) Bottom line is that gold fever is gonna cause people to search where there gonna search, and no logic will ever deter 'em. Each time I hear people calling into Toby and Shelley's show, for instance, I realize how few people have any chance of solving it. The ignorance is just astounding. Zap, in the words of Einstein and repeated by our very own Forrest Fenn, "Imagination is more important than knowledge."

Yep, but Imagination still entails a good dose of intelligence, and it's intelligence that trumps knowledge.

Since a thought I just had today on the way to work relates to this part of the poem, I think this is a good place to put it I was on my way to work after taking my morning shower and my ear kept closing up. I thought to myself "Dang water-logged ear!" at which point I immediately thought of heavy loads and water high. A water-logged area is flooded area, or as road signs say "High Water" And logging definately consists of heavy loads (of wood). So perhaps the area for that line is either a swampy area, or a very shallow but wide river. Also another note about this stanza, if Brown from the previous stanza is actually a proper noun, then if no place for the meek was to reference Meeker, it too would be capitalized. On that note, I like the method in the original post here for solving since Fenn had stated not all nouns are clues, but it would be unwise to discount any of them. As well as the tight focus on a word that is key. It almost sounds like he's hinting at a method of solving like in the OP. The only problem I see is the arrangement of the words in the OPs definition of nigh (he says the left side of a Horse. But one could also say a horse's left Side which says the same thing, but gives us a different word) So I think it's very close and similar to the method needed to solve the poem. -all in my opinion of course. *edit* Didn't Fenn say at one point "If you knew where the home of Brown was, you could walk right to it [the chest]"? if so, then every clue after HoB has to be within walking distance.

I thought it said not far but too far to walk put in below the home of Brown. So I don’t think that you can walk to it from HOB?

Hi kaotkbliss: I maintain that Forrest was being sarcastic in his answer to Jennifer London, in just the same way that he was sarcastic in his exchange with Richard Eeds in May 2015:
Eeds: "What kind of shoes? What kind of footprints did you leave? What kind of boots did you have on?" FF: "Well, if I told you that, you'd go out and find it."

Forrest is highly skilled at the double entendre. It’s very difficult to understand almost anything that he says. Things that he has said just “straight” are even confusing because we are expecting him to have a hidden meaning in almost everything he says.

I hadn't seen the video before but had read the quotes (and even this time it was with no sound, just reading the closed caption) but just reading the context around the question and answer, I think you're right.

I think he's more smart-a$$ literal with his answers to questions. Take for example, his answer about the little girl from India. He said she couldn't get closer than the first 2 clues, he didn't say she couldn't solve more than the first 2 clues. She could solve all of them, yet still be no closer, physically, to the treasure.

The dollar signs in your response doesn’t take away that you’re calling him a name. Although I appreciate your opinion, try not to be so literal in your response. Other sites might have different rules, but on here, we try not to call each other names. In regards to the little girl from India, did you look up anything about India? Have you learned anything about their government or their culture? Maybe there is an answer if you looked it up.

Kaotkbliss: for what it's worth, I saw no issue at all with you suggesting Forrest was being a smart-arse because I think he'd gleefully agree with you. He was speaking off the cuff in both instances. So many people glom on to the quotes and run with them without taking the time to listen to Forrest's voice and hear his inflections. Forrest is hardly on the witness stand in these interviews, and sarcasm doesn't reliably come across in a transcript.

I wasn't saying that to be mean, it was simply the best way to describe his method of answering questions. I think he does it to try and get people to think about what they are saying/asking and to avoid giving out too much information and making for an easy solve.
