National treasure maybe? That would also still fit American eagle as being a bird thats rarely thrown.as in you rarely throw money around and treasure is in the title "treasure on its own" . I dont know ..just throwing something out there.

Also back to my Fenn theroy on this for a second..what about 267 as i believe that Fenn's treasure has 265 gold eagles .265 + 2 = 267. Remember lukas does mention Fenn as being at least in part an inspiration for this hunt.

Nice throw! National Treasure and Goonies are both treasure themed. Maybe that theme could also apply to part 1 rather than the ET phone home reference? I don't know either, but until any of us gets the right combination for all 3 parts of KEY 1, I'm open to anything and everything. I'll play with this one some more. The answers have to become numbers... (think, think)
I'll let ya know if anything exciting develops from my end.

Remember lukas does mention Fenn as being at least in part an inspiration for this hunt. Oh you're the Fenn guy! Pleased to meet you. Hey I won't comment any more about Fenn after this because I don't want to disrupt the thread topic, but that was my inspiration for trying to get a solve for this hunt before the snow came to the Rockies. Had I been the winner (tough competition; lot's of good thinkers on this hunt), I was going to use the winnings from this to pay for a trip to the Yellowstone area (didn't want to use a credit card) so's I could go explore my solve for the Fenn Treasure.
Like everybody else says... I know where the treasure is. Unlike everybody else, I really do no where it is!
In the Fenn hunt, the secret was not listening to other people's ideas. In this hunt, the opposite is true for me. I would have been so lost without the input of everybody who's been contributing over the last 6 months. I'd otherwise have given up months ago.

GeneticBlend & goldenchild brought up the movie "Goonies" for Stanza 5's "play it carefully" reference.
Somebody else (my apologies for not remembering who) brought up the movie "E.T." for Stanza 3 in referencing "phone home."
Considering a possibility of a movie theme connection for KEY 1, does anybody have any comments about the following...
Could the Pheonix in Harry Potter be associated with Stanza 4? Did something happen beside the Pheonix?
What other movies could tie into this stanza?
I apologize as the movie Bambi has also been suggested for Stanza 3. Forgot about that one.
Oh yeah, and Harry Potter too.

This stanza is driving me absolutely crazy. I still haven't been able to find anything that fits in with all parts of the stanza. I at least have decent guesses for other stanzas, but this one has me stumped.

I'm with you Luna, totally stumped here. The one idea I have that I don't think has been mentioned yet is that "the next plus two" might mean that we find a number (I think it will be three digits) and we subtract two from it to get the next chunk of the ten digits - we find the next (chunk) plus two in the stanza?

The next plus two has always been a very interesting part of this stanza....lots of ways to interpret...for example if were looking for coin it could be year minted and you just dont use the 1 you use the next three digits. It could be denomination like if its 100$ bill and you need 3 of em or any bill or coin for that matter.e plurbus unem =out of many one plus two =just saying 3 digits. Roman numerals, gold or silver content..like .999 .there are alot of possibilities for this stanza seems like i can think of new one every day i just wish the parameters were narrowed dowm some .i personally think that using the information we have to narrow it down quite a bit would be the strategy. For example with the way last months question was asked it confirms stanza 3 equals an area code and we know we got 4# for stanza 5 so thinking along the lines of phone number format stanza 4 is gonna equal 3 digits in btwn 200 and 999. With two questions you could for sure limit this to a range of less than 200 possibilities as not every prefix is assigned for every area code. Actually 6 of these area codes have an assignment value of 60% or less meaning just over half of the numbers btwn 200 and 999 are probably not relevant .with a little calculated gamble we could end up with 200 or less possibilities with one question. I know several people might have a problem with this approach but you cant deny the logic and ultimately with less possibilities it will make it alot easier to put theories to the test as if any solution doesn't fit within the parameters it can be easily dismissed. Anyway love it or hate it thats my 2 cents.

Just to illustrate a little further for example if our area code is the 947 overlay .it has a 8 % assignment meaning out 799 possibilities only 64 possible answers right now. Now thats not the case with every area code 313 for example has a 80% assignment meaning 640 possibilities right now.

A little fun fact: Ben Franklin was opposed to the American bald eagle as the national bird and he felt that as far as birds go the eagle was kind of scavanger stealing from other birds it demonstrated low moral. He wanted the Turkey to be it......imagine that a turkey on all our money. Lol

I was thinking about that bonus clue and maybe we all took it wrong . Many treasure's are marked with an x = i always thought this verse sounded like a treasure hunt. If that x relates to Turkeys in bowling and this verse is talking about fenns hunt . "And with my treasures bold" =play on words past tense for bowl (quote from fenns poem) interestingly the next stanza plus two lines "not far, but too far to walk" = 242 idk having alot of ideas about everything tonight for some reason. It hasnt quite all added up just perfect but i really feel close.

Alright, new theory time: What if this stanza is relating, in general, to Istanbul?
Istanbul straddles both Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. "Astride a treasure on its own." Perhaps a dividing line between continents that also serves as a significant waterway could be considered a "treasure on its own"? Also, maybe "the next plus two" could be referring to the fact that Istanbul has had two prominent previous names, Constantinople and Byzantium?
One problem is that Istanbul is technically IN Turkey, not necessarily next to Turkey.
And, of course, the other major problem: if this stanza is referring to Istanbul, how do we get three numbers out of that??
Also, I apologize if anyone has already put this forth as a theory. I did see elysethecat mentioned the Galata Bridge in Istanbul which seems like another good fit.

blog.goldeneaglecoin.com/mcmlxxxvi-gold-coin/ more on what i was suggesting earlier eagle/turkey connected please note that these 4 eagles all have a turkey within them xxx possible using the roman numerals astride or the turkey or beside .i think that the bonus clue really fits here as a addendum . Many treasures are marked with an x THIS one is no different x marks the spot. Also remember he mentioned in one question sombody asked. If you feel translation is needed there are lots of tools that will do that. Maybe that was hint at these roman numerals.
