LOL - it's a chain type thing, with two leather handles - packs up into a little pouch; you can saw through limbs and such if you need to by putting it around what you want to cut and then pull back and forth. I should post a picture somewhere of his pouch, it's pretty impressive what's in it! And yes, it's sort of like the clown car of gear you may need to survive!

Great stuff.
One caveat, avoid 5 inch standing trees.
End of video.
My intents are different, but mostly, have the same things.
Thanks.

I say this independently of what had has been said before. Dependent on possible temps or extremes dress for them.
Have a map and compass. learn to use them and adjust for differences between magnetic north and true north.
Have means to carry, collect, safe water. Have a medical kit.
Cover for rain or snow.
Have numerous means for starting fire;
I will bring this back up, have a means for keeping warm.
Hatchet, Axe, large knife etc.
The most important is to have the knowledge and strength to survive.
Practice in increments.

Mark your trail directionally (especially if you are going in circles) (%
Serves two purposes:
Fatigue sets in and you are lost. Compass is helpful if you have notebook and . map.
Returning to a point of interest.
Blazes.

Does anyone know who was the first to use the phrase "Boots on the ground" relative to finding the tc? I already know its basic etymology and that it was coined years before TTOTC. Was it Fenn or a hunter?

Hi npsbuilder: Dal used the phrase at least as early as June 2014. Haven't found any references earlier than that, but it's a hard thing to search for.

I ran into a dead end as well. The reason for asking was while in 1 of my many rabbit holes, I came across a person named George Wallace "Boots" Corn in Grand Junction CO.

I started on this since Boots was from Grand Junction and had something to do with either railroads or apple orchards. I just found it odd to find him in my search.
