The use of logic to determine an important clue is hard, if I'm correctly interpreting what Forrest is referring to. |

It’s not clear that the deep thinking logic applies to the poem or some other aspect of the treasure hunt. Unless there’s some other information. So I think there are too many possibilities to get a good handle on your question |

there are several interesting things about a "deep thinker".

DP - Doug Preston, a friend of Forrest, who had searched for the treasure. I think Forrest made his deep thinker comment in the early years of the chase.
DEEP has a numerical value of 30 (D,E,E,P = 4,5,5,16 = 30)
What is the 30th word of the poem ?
And, a cross-over into Fenndango on p. 30, to boot.

I think the important clue is the same too. forrest says the word that is key in the poem does the same thing as the important clue.

both help in figuring out the location to the treasure. forrest says the word that is key does and the important clue does.

With all the importance put on finding the first clue first, which we know now is WWWH, it would seem logic can be used to determine 'what/where' is wwwh, and is possibly what Forrest was referring to...... it begins the whole Quest.
