In the shadow of the grey giant. This is not a shadow created by the grey giant but the only shady area anywhere along the grey giant. The road (arm) that crosses the grey giant extends across a slender path before intersecting Silver Lake Park Road. In summer you will often hear a whirring sound. Priess is most likely referring to lawn mowers because on the far side of Silver Lake Park Road is Silver Lake Golf Course. They would mow there regularly during the summer. Cars abound, He's just telling you there's a road in front of you. Although the sign nearby speaks of Indies native, There could be an actual sign that says keep off the grass, or just the signs you see around you. Either way, I believe Indies native is Burmuda Grass which is used on lots of golf courses. That also makes sense with the next clue. The natives still speak of him of hard word in 3 Vols. I believe Priess is using a Homophone with the word "him" that sounds the same as "hem" but different meanings. So, Hem of hard word. I believe that is called "rough" on a golf course. It is mowed to different heights that have names, like, apron, first cut, and second cut. These names describe the quuantity (volume) of grass in each cut. 3 different volumes. The next few clues lead you to the burial site.

The last clues will like most of the puzzles be best followed on site. What you see can go along way to understanding the clues. I will layout a few possibilities. Take twice as many east steps as the hour or more. I think everyone assumes he means the hour on the clock in the image so we are taking 22 steps. For an average person that should take you about 55'. The question is do you take the steps from out by the road and end up in the middle of one side of the "V", or do you got to the middle of one side of the "V" and then take the 22 steps, TBD. Anyway after taking the 22 steps you'll look down and see simple roots. I am assuming tree roots because I'm thinking you'll end up near the water's edge. There are always exposed roots near the water. In Rhapsodic man's soil. I have always thought Priess is referring to gravel in this case. One of the definitions of rhapsody is a miscellaneous collection. I believe man's soil means man made. A miscellaneous collection of man made soil, to me that's gravel, another item found near the water's edge. Or gaze north to the isle of B. I think Priess is telling us two things with this clue, our location in relation to the Isle of Bayonne, as well as the fact that we have a clear view. You would have a clear view from the waters edge. In the attached view of the "V" the yellow path is my best guess but being onsite may change that.

Possibility for the latitude in Image 12. By the way, the coordinates for Staten Island are 40.5795 degrees N, 74.1502 degrees W. Of course this is also the approximate coordinates of all of New York City.

74 degree W longitude has been mentioned by quite a few people over the years. Personally I think it’s important because only Staten Island, southern tip of Manhattan and far western parts of Brooklyn fall into this category. Some of the puzzles have 2 latitudes and 2 longitudes in the image, essentially creating a box of a general location of a casque city. I don’t believe anyone has found a 73 in Image 12 and as such New York wouldn’t fall into this category. I think it’s important as it eliminates large portions of NYC that fall in the 73 degree W longitude range. The North Carolina puzzle works the same way as New York and eliminates Roanoke Island as the burial site IMHO as the lat/long don’t match the clues in the image. I’m in the Battery Park group myself, it’s the area that makes the most sense based on the clues IMHO and it is supported by the 74 degree W longitude clue.

In the same way Preiss used the bat signal to relate Gotham City to New York City in Image 3, He used Superman's emblem to relate Metropolis to New York City in Image 12.

Are their hidden letters in Image 12 like the Boston Puzzle?

Possible hints that the lady is the Statue of Liberty. That torch looks so 'Coney' You are absolutely right, choice. It looks much more like an Olympic Torch. Lake Placid hosted the 1980 Winter Olympics so that would have been a great clue for New York State back in the early 1980's.

I was more thinking of Coney Island and hint to Brooklyn but hey! Yeah, I assumed that was what you meant. Not everything is a clue to casque location, some just confirm the state or city, but you know that.

Another good match for the cone is south end of Roosevelt Isl. (Blackwell's) Visually this is an interesting area with a lot of image matches. tinyurl.com/y2wy2wzpIn the shadow of the UN building by east river. ER showing on her left hand. UN on her upper right sleeve. Cone shaped thing on her robe is lower Roosevelt island. Chrysler Building visible (eagle) Church looking domes. Sharansky Steps, Soviet connection. Peace Form One stainless steel obelisk (9/15/1980) (red rectangular doorway) to the left of 2 round planters (X?). Zip code 10022 in the flower. Isl. of B. just to the north (I love Lucy). "The architectural firm of Andrews & Clark designs a winding granite staircase with jazzy railings and a curved granite wall, inscribed with a plea for peace taken from the Old Testament. The stairwell is named the Sharansky Steps in 1981, in honor of the Soviet dissident/human rights activist Natan Sharansky. We like to think of it as Montmartre on the East River." Clark = Superman!
