It just occurred to me that I have always assumed the treasure was maybe say 10 - 30 feet off the banks of a creek. Maybe even less. I never considered it being in or near the canyon wall, maybe concealed in the rocks of that canyon wall. I also never considered it in say, a waterless basin or floor of an extra wide canyon that has wide open forested fields of sorts, at it's base. Anything is possible. Where do you picture it being?

f calls the place where the chest sits his secret hiding spot. When you were a kid what did your secret hiding spot look like? I imagine a spot where you might have to crawl or squeeze between a couple rocks marked by a blaze to an area about 10' by 10' in size that is open to the sky and on one side a small stairway made from rocks piled leads to an area to sit and enjoy the view, there is only one way in and could be blocked with rocks to protect large animals from entering easily. On a wall there is a hole in the sandstone that is covered by a chunk of petrified wood and behind that old petrified wood rests the chest in all its glory.

I've imagined it 'some place unique'- by what is there, and by hidden location. I like the idea of a hidden meadow.....found by following along side a creek, but a bit tricky to navigate near the end. It then opens up to a small cleared out area that allows sunshine to enter, but yet is surrounded by natural features hiding this 'place'. Personally, I feel the chest is buried, so a Blaze is seen in this area marking the spot. That is one way......however, if the clues lead me to another place....I'll be fine with that too...
