This one has been hidden for at least a year...maybe two. This is rather discouraging because the "book" hasn't been written, and by the time it does get written, we won't know for sure if the treasure is still in place because it probably will not have been checked on since its placement.
Many people have been searching for the Robber Lewis cache and the Virginia cache and have come up empty-handed. No one from Beal's team will confirm if the treasures are still in place.
It's one thing to place the treasure, another to write the clues, but you have to be held responsible for it afterward too. There is never any follow-up on these.

This is rather discouraging because the "book" hasn't been written, and by the time it does get written, we won't know for sure if the treasure is still in place because it probably will not have been checked on since its placement. It's one thing to place the treasure, another to write the clues, but you have to be held responsible for it afterward too. There is never any follow-up on these. I think there is no need for H Charles to go and physically verify that the caches are still there and he is certainly not obligated in any way to do so. Remember we all take our chances when we go search for a treasure that it may not be there. And to say just because it has not been found by a thousand previous searchers does not mean that it is not there. It is more probable that they all looked in the wrong place or were very close but did not find the exact spot. Take a field of 10 acres and send a thousand searchers with metal detectors out to find a 12" by 4" plot, each one on a different day, and it is highly probable that the plot might not be found. Being in the right area does not mean you will find it. I was in the right area in New Mexico and it was not exactly where I thought it was. I found it because I had a limited area to search (60' by 15' - there was a vertical wall and a cliff that limited my search area!). Plus one other thing that H Charles has done...in every cache he has placed instructions for contacting him and he will make it worth your time. I received the gems AFTER I contacted him! Even if someone stumbled across one of the caches and they followed his directions, he will know it has been recovered. Otherwise, he can be very confident that the cache is still in place. If they don't follow the directions? Too bad for us. That's life. Of course I guess if you had your way and he didn't follow up then he should just stop hiding these caches so none of you other searchers can have fun while facing the reality that the cache may not be there if someone has already found it or, heaven forbid, we are in the wrong place.

Ok, just wondered if any news. I agree that you should go in full aware that someone may have already found it. I am just thankful for the chance to be able to go on such adventures!!!!!

TxTh,
I agree and disagree.
If after many, many people report back that they have searched and are in the (confirmed) correct area, but don't find the cache, and several years have gone by, it certainly would be nice for the person who hid the cache to check on it (or have someone trusted check on it). With so many hunts out there, wouldn't one want their reputation to be that their treasures CAN be located? Right now, H has more out there unsolved and unclaimed than have been found. And they are all several years old.
You are one of the lucky few that found one, and on your first try. I am sure your opinion is different.
But what about the people who spent time and money over and over again making trips to search for the treasure?
It IS true that H, or any other hunt setter doesn't owe us a thing. Once they hide the treasure, they are off the hook. But I don't see it that way. Why bother designing and writing a hunt, hiding the cache, only to never be involved again?
I wouldn't post this, but I am, only because I know that I am not the only one who feels this way.

I agree with GB, why put these hunts out there with no follow up or with all the pieces in place ? It’s true that nothing is implied or promised, its also a treasure hunt not a treasure give away. But...... when you cultivate a following hopefully with good intentions and integrity you maintain consistency in the avenues of communications. No one has had to pay for clues or to be involved in any of these hunts, none the less hunters do incur financial expenditures, self inflicted of course. The collateral payoff is time outdoors in nature, alone or with family, a reward in itself, but lets face it , we are treasure hunters and we are chasing the pot at the end of the rainbow no matter how small. The rest is just icing on the cake.
I have been involved in metal detecting for three decades and yes there is the saying “ miss it by an inch, miss it by a mile” but for caches not requiring md’s the chances should slightly improve. I also think if you place 1000 hunters on the same ten acre field on different days in search a 12” x 4” plot and they have done their research odds are pretty high someone is coming up with the prize, my opinion. Aimless wondering doesn’t count.
Mr. Beil says that 90% of his work is research, a word to the wise to all that seek treasure , do your research ! For eons treasures have been amassed and lost to world only to be rediscovered by those who invest countless hours investigating not only the historical events but the key figures surrounding said treasure. Most of us spend more time reading a restaurant menu. The lure and promise of easy treasure may just be that, or not. Keep in mind a lot of hidden treasures really never existed, they simply were seeded for one reason or another. The Beale treasure here in VA has been labeled by some as one of those treasures invented to benefit an individual with no real treasure to be found.
Remember, nothing worth while is easy, something to good to be true usually is, and never do a dishonest thing to gain or loose a friend.

Is there any way we can ask the Treasureman himself about a update for this one?

You can try, but I don't think you will ever get an answer.

Is there any way we can ask the Treasureman himself about a update for this one? Someone asked on The Treasureman FB Group in June about the Texas cache but this was the overall response from H: "Scotty the Pirate Cache is in Pennsylvania. The Sonny Lockwood Cache is in Texas. The Davy Crockett Cache is in Tennessee. These three caches have been hidden for a couple of years. It's very difficult to research in order to write books, install clues and to locate legal places to hide a cache so it takes some time. Everything has taken a back seat to the Gallows Harbor Treasure Hunt which will be the largest treasure hunt in America. The first book for the Gallows Harbor Treasure Hunt will be released through Kickstarter this summer. The hunt is shaping up very well and will be challenging with a mesmerizing story line of witchcraft and the occult." There's also this post from the Treasureman Forum as of December 30, 2019: "This treasure hunt is a work in progress. It is already hidden in a fantastic location and the book is currently being written. Scotty went into the field with H. Charles and Jason and he picked the spot himself where the treasure would be hidden. He will be the central character of the story about piracy and adventure. We're hoping the book will be out sometime in 2020. And if we're lucky we'll even hear from Scotty himself right here!" TL;DR - In progress; waiting for book to be completed, expecting sometime in 2020 but everything has taken a back seat to Gallows.
