The word IDEA comes from the poem, so seems reasonable. The end is ever = The end i sever, with the ends being the corners, four corners = Box. I think many searchers use IDEA as the keyword. I like aid/aide combinations. But when FF said the keyword was in the poem, i starting thinking again.

Maybe the missing “d” in knowledge is found in “I-d-e-a.”

I've locked the poll.
Although only a small amount of responses, 50% of people believe only some of the aberrations are also hints. To me, this is worst-case scenario, and a breeding ground for confirmation bias (see my original post above). If correct, Forrest has created complexity (chaos?) by making it impossible to spot the hints from the non-hints.
Personally, I think he's smarter than that...

FF said the hints help identify the clues, but don't lead searchers the chest (paraphrasing). IMO, this means the hints are more associated with the methodology, than narrowing down locations. For example, removing all spaces and RH justifying the poem shows the word Kettle below the HOB line. This does not lead me to the chest, however, provides some bias/confirmation that the methodology is correct. I think that idea is worth thinking about, together with Jenny's question 'in what way are they hints'. The butterfly/flutterby example springs to mind. This doesn't get us anywhere nearer the chest, but hints at one possible methodology of clue-setting. Are there any other examples you can think of?

We would also have to first define 'what is an aberration?' or 'what are the aberrations of TTOTC'? to say whether they are hints or not.. ....... there could some 'confirmation bias'/grey areas there too....
That is why I voted 'some aberrations are hints'- because I don't feel we can even agree on what the aberrations are.... some could be genuine mistakes.... and...
Are the Postmark dates aberrations?- the fact they don't match the days? But are these 'Forrest's doing?'

. Dave, et al,
I ll address the aberrations questions with a few examples, outside of the poem (as the poem is full of examples and a few have been mentioned, most not).
aberrations around “ThE EdgeS”, is self reflective, itself giving TEES around the edges. ( forrest humor ).
In the book, A WIN in the first few letter boxes looks intentional to me, per se, but also based on other information ( wont be mentioned here ).
The “ shoed ends” in the book also looks intentional ( i dont see how it could be coincidence or subconsciously placed ), and connects to various feet and toe comments by forrest in scrapbook words and pictures.
the poker / joker poem is a modified version and has several hints in it.

I have shown before how using 4 versions of the poem aligns "Wording Tab". It seems natural then to align "Wording Tab" vertically. This reveals "Teachers Aid Belt". I thought this phrase aligned with his stories in the book, showed some humor, and provided context to look for phrases (not individual words) when looking for clues hidden in the text.

Are the Postmark dates aberrations?- the fact they don't match the days? But are these 'Forrest's doing?' Hi Jenny: it's possible that Forrest's answer to what is an aberration would be the same as his answer to "What is blaze?": Anything that stands out. Altering poem lyrics, altering song lyrics, reversing ancient statements to mean the opposite of the original, swapping the settings of an author's book, pretending famous actors haven't authored anything, misspelling the names of actors, archaeologists, explorers, directors, and even an astronaut, and so on. Forrest isn't sloppy or ignorant: he inserts these aberrations deliberately. All the evidence you need to confirm that hypothesis is to review his scholarly articles and non-treasure-hunt books.

Just to complicate matters Forrest bends words sometimes. What if some words he bends are words that remain correct in both spelling and context? Now we have visible and invisible aberrations. So it is true that all invisible aberrations are hints but it is only possible that all visible aberrations are hints. It is also true that I can argue a point just for the sake of arguing which I may or may not be doing at the moment.
