Just My 2¢
I'll caveat this by stating that these are just my opinions. They may matter to some and not at all to others. Either way, there is a lot of emotion surrounding this hunt and especially now that it has been found.
I believe that once the treasure was found there were a lot of things set into motion. This is like winning the lottery (I realize that some states allow for anonymity and that some do not), and then some. This lottery comes with a legend; a backstory that predates the hunt by decades. This hunt was probably the biggest of a lifetime. In that, I think that the hunt was bigger than even FF ever imagined.
If it was me who found the treasure, I'd want some time to collect my thoughts and process what came next too. The same goes for the finder and FF as well, in my opinion. My thoughts are that after a decade of daily emails, phone calls, interviews on <insert medium here>, stalkers, threats, the deaths of multiple searchers...I'd want some thinking/breathing room as well.
I have read many other thoughts on this board and can tell there are a lot of passionate folks on here that spent time, money, energy and life on this hunt. I spent time researching this hunt as well...it was fun but in the end, I don't have the box. I never thought to assign myself a hunt-related title or assign myself a position out of the over ###k searchers. I am not even sure how you arrive at those. I think that the finder of the box alone qualifies to do so, however. In other words, it seems like some of those same folks believe they are/were entitled to the treasure and may be a bit salty now that the hunt is over. Maybe not, but the end result is the same: one person has the box and the rest of us do not. There don't seem to be any runner-up prizes for being "close" in this hunt.
I have read about no less than three lawsuits already in action surrounding this treasure (in recent days). There will undoubtedly be more. Maybe that's the way that things go with hunts like this. Instead, I'd say congratulations to the finder. Well done, mystery person...this is a huge accomplishment.
Do I think that FF "owes" the community a solve? No. He already gave the community the Thrill of the Chase and a dedicated 10 years, remember? That being said, it seems like FF is the sort of character who, in the end, will give a solve to the community though. He probably knows better than any one searcher the effort involved in this hunt...and the desire for closure. I'll wait patiently for it, but also (to an extent) understand the desire for it to come out yesterday. Part of me hopes that FF publishes another book with the solve (or the finder with a foreword by FF...something to that effect). Something this large and legendary deserves to be memorialized in that fashion. This can't be something so simple as a few paragraphs on a blog somewhere. I'd imagine that takes time as well (if that's even a thought/consideration by the two).
On to the next hunt!
Perfect.
