I don't blame you if you are. I would still make a run for it if I didn't have a 22 hour drive ahead of me. If nothing else, just to see if there's any disturbed areas where I expected the chest to be. I had planned on going later this year. But, I went in early June 2 years ago and was turned back by snow and time.

Well, allegedly, the finders/sellers/hoaxers left something at the secret spot. So, this might not be a terrible idea to check it out.
My guess is it's a copy of TOTC book with original Forrest's IOU / Money Order / Cashiers Check that might have been inside the chest.
Here's the quote from the forrestfenntreasure website:
"At this time we feel it is still our spot too and who knows that might never change. We left something so if you find the spot you will know. And by the way it will cover your expenses if that is what you thought. Leave us a note as we will be around. No need to make extra arrangements."

They didn't find the treasure, wherever they are, isn't the spot - the poem is VERY specific as to what you'll find and the strings that are attached.

Not only they found the chest, they have successfully sold it at a profit, avoided the legal problems for themselves AND managed to keep the spirit of the chase alive by keeping the hiding spot secret and leaving some value to it for a potential searcher.
How are they different from some old art hustler, other than the preference to stay anonymous than pampering their vanity by trying to immortalize themselves by being remembered?
I dare you to prove me wrong.
