The Fletch series is discussed on p. 63; there are numerous connections one can make.
For example, Chevy Chase (the actor mentioned in the book) is also a location in Maryland (this is my home state).
Here is another angle … Sue said, when talking about “Fletch Lives”, that “mysteries often hold a big clue for ME and My lifE” …………… this looks like a blatant pointer toward a clue … where ME is the state abbreviation for Maine, and ME and MY are letters found in “mysteries”.
As the NEW ORLEANS and ORLEANS PARISH anagrams have been made public – it seems likely that NO is the beginning, not end, of the trip, for several reasons: 1) Nels was in his apartment christened “Bourbon Street” ( hints that he lives in New Orleans, that’s where they’re starting from ) and 2) we are told that they were traveling up from the beginning spot (and that’s hard to do if your destination is New Orleans)
Using this information, we can use further information to try to develop a route:
“mysteries of-TEN hold a big clue for me and my life”
Chevy Chase is made of TEN letters, broken into 5+5. Route 55 head North out of New Orleans Route 10 heads North out of New Orleans
page TEN of the book has a mystery as the last sentence:
“But is my secret qigong or tea? I’ll never tell”
And, p. 55 of the book mentions TEN.
“mysteries of TEN hold a big clue for me and my life” (p. 63)

Characters names hold potential information, in addition to the anagrams already exposed
LANE LA, N.E. Northeast Lousiana Northeast Los Angeles (this is a geographic area marked on maps)
Nels Ware NW (northwest)... first letters of name SE (souteast) ... last letters of name (remember in the story when he did the Scarecrow routine and pointed all over the place?)
Sue Sioux
just some examples

Remember the reference previously discussed related to Skip-Bo as a skip-letter sequence? Here's another:
break-fast TEA & BOURBON, but skip "BO"
TEA + URBON BATON RUE
RUE BATON is a street next to DESIREE in Baton Rouge, LA near LANE's END (that one was for you, minotaur)
,,,,,,,,,,,,
BOURBON, skip BO
U R BON (French is discussed in the book, BON means "good")
U R GOOD
was that a confirmation ? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
skipping BO both times gives
URN
interesting

That's really interesting. I never knew about Chevy Chase Maryland.
Sleeping Giant Mountain/Park in Ct could be along the trail. Chapter 6, it would seem that might be the location of the group. "... we were driving our gentle giant directly to a sleeping giant. Would it wake up and step on us..."

Neat, especially since he earlier talks about "the murder in Chapter 6" (see thread by that name).

The setting in Fletch 2 is Thibodaux, LA which is 60 miles out side of New Orleans.
Another possibility is Chevy Chase was born in Manahattan NY.
Breakfast Tea and Bourbon book giveaway should be up by this weekend.
