Indigojones i loved reading your solve, and i think your geometry is very accurate, it ties in with the towns you can see on the map. Much clearer with the diagrams too. It is refreshing to hear a solve from a viewpoint i would never have investigated.. Have you tried the rainbow solution π to any other location other than Colorado? Just curious, as when i was trying out my solve, i felt i was crowbarring in places to fit to my solve. So tried to fit them in other locations WWWH.
The starting point is very very important, and i believe that IF βBEGIN IT WHERE WARM WATERS HALT β is the first clue: then To FIND βITβ we need to look at the lines in the poem BEFORE WWWH. And that is the key, the 4 lines before WWWH. Even though a separate stanza, it can still part of the FIRST CLUE. Any how (got side tracked there a bit sorry)
You certainly have done your research, and the locations seem to match your formula. WELL DONE INDIGO.
Maybe we will all know soon/ one day or maybe never if any of us are right or wrong. π Like you say - closure would be a good thing, otherwise, we will just keep wondering and maybe I will even try to finish the last three clues in my cryptic solution.

Hi annie, thank you for your comments. No, I looked at the other states but believed Forrest would never leave searchers floundering around in the dark and having to guess at it , he would have included the means to ascertain which state held the treasure and the rainbow does that admirably. He did say if you get the first clue you are more than half way to the treasure, which in fact is true because you would be three quarters of the way there by eliminating three states immediately.
You have to think of the colors RED and BLUE and link them to 'warm' and 'cold' in the poem which suggests temperature. Hot and Cold. water temperatures. On faucets RED is Hot and BLUE is Cold, so hold that thought for a minute. The name Colorado means RED therefore it is HOT yes? So if a 40 degree angle of COLD meets COLORADO SPRINGS which are HOT then the result is warm yes? HOT and COLD come together to make 'WARM WATERS' that is my logic. You cannot apply it to any other state. Plus the state must be box shaped which is what 'Get back in the box' comment means. Out of 50 states in the USA only two are true boxes: 'Wyoming' and 'Colorado' check them out.
Re: Stanza one that relates to another puzzle at the end. The Zodiac one. The one thing that I was always drawn to was the curious layout of the Stanzas themselves. Stanzas 2, 3 and 4 carry the geographic clues and 2+3+4 = 9 whereas Stanzas 1, 5 and 6 add to 12, the Zodiac puzzle at the end. Stanza 1 begins:
"As 9 have gone alone in there And with my treasures bold I can keep my secret 'W' here And hint of riches new and old.
This is a clue to writing treasures into the Zodiac circle at the end and finding the secret 'W' I will reveal that in the end of the rainbow solution.

Yes i looked at the Zodiac for a while and thought about water sign and Libra, scales fish etc. Again something everyone can identy with. Also looked at constellations like the plow, great bear. My solve started with STAR so i guess that was a logical path. Every solve is really different though, it is still strange that no one else has really similar solves, they all seem very diverse.

annie, google nasa starchild the 88 known constellations and look at the list. Do you remember Forrest's comment "Only a few are in tight focus with a word that is key" then look at constellations 79 and 80 and you might see some sense in his quote. What in this list gives you tight focus and what is it focused on?

A cistern is a structure, no? I thought that Forrest said that the treasure chest (location) is not associated with a structure.
