The Scarlet Woman treasure hunt: The Image: LINK TO PDF OF IMAGE (to view larger) RULES FOR THE TREASURE HUNT: THE SCARLET WOMANThis is a FREE HUNT. Anyone can participate. Donations are being accepted to help with the cost of art supplies, prizes, and shipping of the prizes. You can send donations to PayPal at TheArtofHiddenMessages@gmail.com Your donations are appreciated! The money affords me to keep making treasure hunts and giving prizes along with them. This hunt is somewhat similar to “The Secret”, however, I am using a proxy item, and only one illustration and only one poem. A proxy item is hidden in place of a treasure somewhere in the continental United States. There is an illustration that contains clues to the location of the proxy item, and there is a poem that also contains clues to the location of the proxy item. You will use these together to determine where the proxy item is located. If you are following the clues correctly, you will know exactly where the item is, down to a small, searchable area approximately 2 inches by 2 inches. The proxy item must be retrieved to win. The proxy item will be easily identified, as it matches the theme of this hunt. When the proxy item is found, the winner must take a photo of it, and send it to TheArtofHiddenMessages@gmail.com with the heading, “Proxy Item Found”. There can be only one winner, the person who has the proxy item in their possession. If you are working as a team, it is up to the players to determine how to divide the prize. The prize will be sent to the person who sends in the photo of the proxy item with their address. There is no need to go on private property, into cemeteries, or in any dangerous areas. This is in a public place and easily accessible. Let me say that again, IT IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE and in a PUBLIC AREA. This puzzle is not very difficult, so I don’t expect it to take very long to solve. I do not plan to give out hints. There is enough information in the poem and illustration to solve for the location. I will post updates on the facebook site, The Art of Hidden Messages, and on the Mysterious Writings Forum. The prize, like with “The Secret” is a gem. The gem for this hunt is a Moonstone. Also included will be the original painting used for this hunt. It is a watercolor, and measures 11.75 inches in height by 9.25 inches in width. The prize items will be mailed to the winner, at my expense, and tracking will be provided. If you figure out the location, but have no intention of retrieving the proxy item, please don’t spoil the fun for those who are still playing. Don’t post the answer. Thanks for playing, have fun, and good luck!

ONE CLUE on the treasure hunt given by The Art of Hidden Messages:
" I will give one CLUE for this hunt: The location of this treasure is NOT in my home state. "
So not in PA!

People have sent me photos of what they believe the proxy item to be.
I want to say some things about the PROXY item. The last treasure hunt was about a native tribe that was called, "Cat People". One of the prizes was a gem called a "Cat's Eye". The proxy was found at a light house. That proxy item was a round rock, painted like a cat's eye. You could see a light house reflected in the cat's eye on that proxy item.
When you find the proxy item for THE SCARLET WOMAN, there will be no doubt in your mind that you have found the correct item. The proxy items for my hunts go along with the themes of the hunts. So if you are out searching for the proxy item, it should in some way(s) match what the hunt is about, or you are not in the right place.
Also, you can not see the proxy items from google earth or by google images. The proxy items are hidden. The clues tell you where they are hidden.
If you read Steve's interview with Jenny Kile, he explains how it was that he found the exact spot for the proxy item from the last hunt.
The proxy item is also yours to keep. It makes a cool reminder of a successful hunt.

This one is proving to be a bit tougher for me than Copy Cat. Found some meaning in a few lines but not piecing it together to a location just yet.

I seem to always see things that aren’t there, but it looks to me like there is WA on her collar.

Do you all think the stone window/doorway is a real place or just an idea of a place from a book?

So I think the general location might be Boston, or at least Massachusetts. The title "The Scarlet Woman" and the red letter 'A' in the final line could be referencing Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter", which takes place in Boston. Also, John Hancock was the Governor of Massachusetts, as well as a representative for Massachusetts in the drafting/signing of bunches of Revolutionary-era documents. Specifically, he's believed to have been the first signer of the Declaration of Independence, and while I can't find another significant document he signed first, if there is one, he could be the subject of the line "Twice first, his signature did he scrawl." and potentially even "He watched a red Empire come to a fall." (i.e. America's independence from the British Empire AKA 'Redcoats') This makes me think that the line "In a place of degrees, where one becomes clever," could refer to one of the multiple colleges (as in an academic degree) in the Boston area, specifically Harvard, which was attended by John Hancock. Unfortunately, that's all I've got so far, and I'm not familiar enough with the Boston area to notice any distinct references in the Image.

I believe I have a specific location, however, it isn't as specific as the creator says it should be.

If you have solved this correctly, meaning if you have figured out the poem, and have found what you need to in the image, you will be able to identify the state, the city, and area in the city, the location within that area, and the exact area where the proxy item is hidden within a few inches. All of that is in there.

I agree, specifically I think the verse relates to Radcliffe, as the seven sister who no longer exists.

Another quick observation: The lines "On her forehead was written a name, A mystery." could refer to Chapter 17 of the Book of Revelation, which describes the Whore of Babylon. For instance: "And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." (Revelation 17:5 NKJV) If this is the case, there are potential groups of seven in both Chapters 16 and 17. Chapter 16 describes 7 plagues brought by 7 angels, while 17 includes the lines "There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time." (Revelation 17:10 NKJV) Either one could be related to the line "But one of seven is missing. Where could it be?" and possibly hint at a more specific location of the treasure.
EDIT: But I like dawny's Seven Sisters/Radcliffe College connection above more than either of these sevens.

eeple, I also found the verse from Revelation, but I found it as it pertains to The Statue of Liberty, (The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality, and on her forehead a name was written: â A MYSTERY, "BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTHâ . The Statue of Liberty and her sonnet "The New Colossus" was written in 1883 by Emma Lazarus to help raise funds for construction of the towering sculpture's pedestal) and Ellis Island from Google Earth, looks like the woman's neck and collar, so I was thinking this cold be where it is, but now, I'm re-evaluating a few things. Also, John Hancock, was the first signer of the Declaration of Independence, I'm not sure if he signed it twice first or not, but the connection would be the tablet that Lady Liberty holds is the date of our Independence, July 4, 1776. As far as the seven but one is missing, here is what that same article says about seven....."The statue, sculpted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, had been conceived of as a gift of friendship from the people of France marking the two nations' commitment to liberty. She had written … FREE! The seven arms of the crown she …" So, I think the location has to do with The Statue of Liberty, but, there are more places then just New York, that has a Statue of Liberty, so I'm still working on it lol. I also like the Seven Sisters/Radcliffe College connection as well.

I am looking for someone in Massachusetts who can be BOTG to partner with in the search. I firmly believe I have the public place it is in. Im narrowing it down in said place. If our partnership leads to the proxy item, you can have the gemstone. I am much more interested in the artwork.
