Where is the triangular shaped piece of land? Are you talking about the triangle he's sitting on? That's the other flat bridge, ironically the new statue's location. The old base is between the fence of the cemetery and water so who knows what BP was thinking. Maybe he thought he was outside the church grounds. I'm sure they used heavy equipment to move the statue so yes it is compacted now. Our BOTG walked the grounds and felt it was too compacted to probe. Also, he was apprehensive to probe on religious grounds, literally and figuratively!

The so called island by the palm tree in the painting with the letters on it, is what I’m calling a triangle shape. Technically it does have 4 sides( quadrilateral) That shape should be by the palm tree and at the base of that palm tree are oyster shells. At least that’s my theory.

Funny, now you put me in the position to prove YOUR unproven theory (hypothesis). I'll bite. Here's the local map. To the right is the notch in the S on the horse (flat bridge) and on top of the map below the fence where the base is looks pretty close to the 'triangle'. tinyurl.com/38mxtr2x

Sure, why the heck not. Nothing better to do in a heatwave in Northern California.

Thanks for posting the pics. It makes things clearer to see what your talking about. Like they say a picture is worth 1000 words. So the Father Francisco statue was in the purple square in 1982 and that is your proposed site.

Correct. That frond does look like the base steps. One planter still exists on the right side looking at the map above. The other one on the left is gone. I thought the grounds around the base was paved but our guy said it's not. It's compacted down. So probably after statue removal they used a compacter to cleanup the scarring. Thanks Sluggozim for the pictures.

Well it’s a theory and it’s always good to see others complete theory so one can digest it. How did they determine the time to be 9:00? I was playing around with some other ideas. Lots of maybes here. I did a painting overlay on that piece of church property . Interesting where the jewel falls. I know there are some that don’t like overlays ,but I thought it might be fun. Still think it’s in the FOY park but I’m always willing to change direction if the weather vane turns.

Just more thoughts. Looking at the painting The First pic below, could show a potential location for the casque on the church grounds. In the painting there are a lot of image clues referring to the objects on the church grounds. I hope BP was just using those image clues in the painting as way points only or a general confirmation for St.Augustine. I would consider this place more sacred than a National Park. FOY park seems more likely for a casque burial. At least ,the FOY park owner allowed digging there in the past.
Second pic .( below) I believe the head of the bird . outlined in pink ,could be a parrot, cockatoo, Cockatiel or something along that line .It appears to be eating out of the skeletal “left” hand in the painting. There might be food ( a word maybe) in the hand made by the stone. Did they offer feeding the birds in the FOY park? Now some might think it’s a skeletal prayer hand or represents the hand of the Father Francisco statue. The problem there is that, it’s Father Francisco’s right hand that is in a somewhat similar position not a left hand as seen in the painting. The image in the painting and the 2nd sorrow plaque on the church property. Is it just a confirmation to the St. Augustine area , a way point ( line up the original location of the Father Francisco statue to the 2nd sorrow plaque and extend into the FOY park? to the dig spot ?

As you know the painting is a collage of several pictures at the site. In Cleveland the columns were on the wrong side of the wall. Does this mean the casque should've been in the front side of the wall where the columns were? There were two planters, one on each side of the base. Depending on how you interpret the image and what you want to line up you could end up in either planter. Or just go dig by the other bridge. Verse templet, Feel at home, Beneath the tenth stone, The end of ten by thirteen, At the base...

I still don’t like the fact that maybe BP would have wanted people to dig in that church yard of all places. The most sacred historic Catholic Church site in the USA. If he buried one there then Bunche park in NYC is fair game, so is a national park , maybe even the front lawn of the White House. You may have found an acceptable and logical dig spot but other treasure hunters would probably decimate the place looking for it. Also the Seloy village, was it only at the FOY park? So how does the parrot fit into the picture. I still like to take that line literally and look at the base of a tall tree. That’s probably the way you link the verse to the painting to the dig site. Like seek the columns ,the painting has to have columns and there are columns by the dig site. So there is an image in the painting and line in the verse saying this is the dig spot. Now I imagine when the first Spanish setters came on September 8 1565 to set up residency they wouldn’t set up camp in the Seloy village itself but beside it. Unless the entire area was abandoned, which I don’t think it was.

Really D, if you're looking for a cockatoo, there's one on the left side of painting with it's crest down that suspiciously looks like the fence behind the statue. Leave the crow with shiny black coat be!

The cockatoo is depicted in the post above outlined in pink. That also might be a bird. They may have had an aviary on the FOY grounds. I like the crow! He stays! Anyways I think I have figured it out. In the main body of the stone like image of the painting, are representations of objects in the church yard, like the stone work ( stone, concrete, cast objects Father Francisco, The 2nd sorrow etc.). The outline could be for Father Francisco as well as the Virgin Mary ( shawl and all). Not to mention the land itself. So I agree to all that but….. what we are looking for is that tall tree correct! So in the painting we see a tall tree by a so called island ( shape of land / oyster shell). Now if anyone knows anything about painting then certain colours ( warm colours, yellows etc.)of the colour spectrum drop out the further the object is away from you until you get blues and violets ( cool colours). That’s why distant mountains are painted in a bluish/ purple colour Now we look at that palm tree by the island…. That is the location of the casque…… it has kind of a blue tinge . When was the last time you saw a blue palm tree? Maybe if it was off in the distance… not by the church grounds. A bit further away possibly. Now you see in the painting that island is separated by water ( blue colour),from what I call the church grounds ( grey stone mass).. Just like Ocean Avenue , ( name says it all), separates the church property from the FOY park. The only hint for the dig site in the entire painting may very well be just that island and palm tree clue. Nothing more. Verse heavy puzzle. The rest of the painting just gets you to the general area and fits the JFK theme I proposed earlier. JFK was the 1st. Catholic POTUS. Mission of Nombre de Dios 1st Catholic Church site. Some say there is a cross in that palm tree , maybe. If there is it might pertain to the shadow cast by the great cross towards the dig site or it might be an alignment feature , where you have to align the tree with the cross and the dig spot is below that at the base of the palm tree. Keep it Simple. That’s the way I see it. Did another superimposition the the painting onto the land. Like it or not. This time with the painting flipped.Like JJP said, “instead of going left go right” or something along that line, so flip it. This also puts the Father Francisco hand ( skeletal image ) in the proper orientation, the right hand. Shows the island by the potential casque location. GLTA
So the pic below would be correct orientation to use. If the hidden Castillo de San Marcos Fort is buried behind the purple circle 🟣 on the flag , looks much like a compass , a clue for orientation of the painting. So the image of that conquistador is sitting on his horse on that section of land that is part of the church grounds. Now the Conquistador is facing west , the direction they had to go to get to Florida and stick the flag into the ground to claim it for Spain. Another interest fact that to be able to claim land back in the day , by maritime law, you had to have 3 ships in your convoy. That’s why Columbus had 3 ships when he headed West.
Your not going to put an Acrostic ( SELOY), in the verse and it not be buried there in the FOY park

Continuing on with the FOY park theory. I’m starting to think that the bird image in the painting might not be a parrot but a peacock. Maybe both? Peacocks make a honking sound. Peacocks are in the FOY park. That maintenance site I believe is at the south end of the park and surrounded by a green picket fence to keep the tourists/ peacocks out of there, or it could be the green picket fence in general that surrounded the park and for it to be behind you , one would have to be looking over the water. You have to be close enough to the edge of the water to see the sea grass, ( even in darkness like moonlight in tear drops over the tall grass). So the sea grass or sea grass seed pods would sparkle in the moon light . Obviously BP buried the casque at night.
