Seems the hint relates to the Dorabella Cipher..... mysteriouswritings.com/the-dorabella-cipher-and-a-possible-method-for-deciphering/(from the MW post on the cipher: The encrypted note was included with a word of thanks to the Penny family. After spending a few days visiting the Penny’s home, Edward and his wife, Caroline Alice, wrote to the Penny’s expressing their gratitude for the stay. Edward decided to enclose an encoded message especially for ‘Miss Penny’ who was the 22 year old daughter of the Penny family, and who Edward had become friends with.)

I'm still working on it, but have made very little progress at all beyond the dorabella cipher. I thought this new hint would make for a quick solve, but I have ended up still just as stuck.

I've been working on it a little bit with no luck so far! I also can't seem to progress past the dorabella cipher. Since there is no definitive solve for the dorabella, it's hard to pinpoint which proposed method of solving should be used. As far as this month's hint, I"m assuming "unliving tongue" is alluding to Latin or another dead language.

Jumping in here after viewing the November clue. I solved the Dorabella but I'm still totally clueless! I submitted a long-shot guess, but I think I'll take another look at all the clues again tomorrow. As usual, I'm probably missing something obvious!

Thanks, hyde123! I was pretty stuck for a while, but remained determined!!! I also want to give credit to jewelie who brainstormed and bounced ideas around with me (instead of me bouncing my own head against the wall) for the past week. At first, all I could think about was the MGM lion - probably because I'm currently in Los Angeles! Over the past few months, I learned a lot about Elgar and the Enigma Variations. This was definitely my favorite Mini Hunt.
