The thing that caught my attention with chapter 2. He counted out 5 stacks of 5 bills so there might be a polybius cipher in here. Had to work today so only have a chance to skim through it. Good luck all!
Also I am in Wisconsin and if anyone needs a proxy for the area I would be honored to assist.

First page of Chapter Two..."Well done, indeed," Neil Hawthorne offered, "You earned it FAIR and SQUARE." Caps are my enunciation. Perhaps the Playfair Cipher??

I hope this helps out a few working on chapter two. What I have tried and failed at. I listed every movie name, character name, actor, place and all the oddball stuff like “dark side” in the Star Wars section of the chapter but only those beginning with capital letters. There is stuff like Imperial fleet where I did not use fleet From that list. I tried using the first letters in playfair squares using keyword Star Wars, treasure hunt and one with no key. I also tried just using every 7th letter, also tried a 7x7 square. It may still be a lead and I just have missed something or have something out of order or my keyword is wrong. Just thought I would throw this out here in case others are stuck and want some to try some ideas
Good luck y’all!

Just *Dbl* checking, when you laid out your 5x5, with Star Wars as your key your first characters were "S t a r w b c d e... etc. right?

I'm primarily working on Chapter Two as well. What do all of you think of the, now discovered concept, that if the cipher isn't spelled out and explained, it for sure isn't used in the solving methods? I mean, it doesn't seem to leave much room for uniqueness considering all four chapters have to be solved by completely different methods. Let's look at which ciphers were explained...... Caesar and ... that's it, really. Vigenere was partially explained but certainly not fully. And word play like the others mentions aren't ciphers. Anything I'm missing?

I agree with that summary. If a cipher will be used, it will be caesar, otherwise it will be something involving kangaroo words or something else that you don’t need to put a label on to be able to spot. What I mean by that is that taking the first letter of a series of words is called an acrostic. But you didn’t have to know that term or have it explained to you to be able to pick out the first letters to solve chapter four.

Seems amazing to have a text-only hunt and only ever use Caesar as far as ciphers. Maybe I do have a chance after all. lol

Why doesn't Kayla let her father know that she didn't yet watch "Rise of Skywalker" the first time he asks about it? She mentions that her mother would have fallen asleep during "the last one" too. But then goes on to say later on that she has not seen it yet and doesn't really care if she ever does.
And I find it possibly interesting that both Kayla and Alex have only missed one Star Wars movie. The last one.

Just joining the hunt. But I think I've made some headway on Chapter 2. Is anyone here working on this chapter much? I took some insight from the Ch. 4 solution, the 'one hit wonder' songs and thought about some other pop culture possibilities. What I found was that there are ALOT of single word movie titles through out the chapter (Convoy, Colorado, Arizona, Highway, Things, Space...). I realized this after some weird inconsistencies in the capitalization of words in the chapter. But at this point I am almost over whelmed with the amount of letters that I found and am looking for some help. Just in this for the search!

Yes, I'm really only working on Chapter 2 (see above - have a read of the rest of these posts from everyone, too). Yes you're right about the cap'd movie titles (to include Suddenly and Things is Thing but that's a kangaroo of course). There 2-word names too. Ben-Hur & Captain Marvel ...etc. Thing is about learning from the other chapters is that we know for sure that the method used in one chapter will absolutely NOT be repeated. That doesn't mean that the movie titles aren't used in some other way. I've been trying to find kangaroo words mostly. What are your other ideas?

That doesn't mean that the movie titles aren't used in some other way. I've been trying to find kangaroo words mostly. What are your other ideas? That's a good reminder that the exact method isn't repeated. I'm think that there is some sort of 'rules' for picking the movies out. It won't be every movie referenced in the chapter, just some of them. Then maybe applying a caesar cipher to those letters. The reason I think there must be some sort of 'rules' for the movies to pick is because of the exchange on Page 35 where Kayla is talking about the the "fleets being matched in speed". She uses the words, 'Empire' and 'fuel' while talking. Now both of these are Films, but Niel interrupts her saying "That doesn't seem right,". She responds saying "Not if you're following the rules that have been set down through out the previous films,". While this flows well in the conversation, I think the author is actually telling us directly to not use these films.
