They will tell you if it is correct. The finder’s fee, per the rules of the game, is 1000 dollars. If you need help, a friend and I have been working on this and we live in two places which cover a lot of ground and would be willing to help.

There is a whole thread on potential out-of-state partners.

If someone is working on the hunt and finds the object only, Dave will give them $1,000. But if you find a partner who knows nothing about the hunt, you can offer them anything you want. You could say to a friend, if you go to such and such a park and send a picture of a bottle cap to this address I’ll give you $50.
Most if us are using $1,000 as a finder’s fee amount because it would be a little obnoxious imo to give someone less just because they don’t know about the hunt.
As mentioned, there’s a thread called ‘Out of State Partners’ where everyone has listed where they are from. You could pick one of those people and send them a private message to partner up.

He did imply that he would tell you if you have the wrong solution so that you wouldn’t spend money on a plane ticket to go on a wild goose chase. Edit: just to clarify, if you send Dave both parts, the full solution and a picture of the object, he’ll confirm you’ve won. But if you only send him the solution without a picture of the object, I think he said he would not tell you if you’re correct.

How can he only tell you if you are wrong? If he *doesn't* say you are wrong, isn't that the same as saying you are right? How would he answer if you ask and you are correct? If someone submits a solution, he says he answers all emails, and he doesn't want people traveling if their answer is wrong, he would have to confirm or deny the solution.
It would still mean you have to go and find the proxy - the first to show proof along with the solution will win, so someone can still get there before you. But you can head out knowing you are going to the right place.

If you send images of objects with no solution to go along with them, you'll get no response. And..... by elimination, knock is right. If you have the methodology (solution) spelled and you email that to verify if a plane ticket is warranted, and he does NOT tell you that you should NOT buy that ticket, then by elimination, you have your answer. You're right.

I'll try to find the interview where he said exactly what he would respond to. But the question about whether he'll tell you if you're right or not is kind a moot point anyway. If you've found a phrase so specific as "TINY WINGS SANBORN BENCH RAILYARD PK SF NM" you really don't need him to confirm that you've gotten the right answer. You're not going to get a sentence that makes sense by using the wrong method, and if you've used the right method, you're not going to get the wrong sentence.
I think he said or implied that the reason to email him right away with your solution isn't to get a confirmation that you're correct. It's so that if somebody else picks up the object but doesn't email the solution, you'll get $9,000.
It turns out chilorin17 didn't have a solution. They thought they knew the state based on things mentioned in the book, but hadn't decoded any kind of phrase.
