Look for the boom town within the geographic boundaries given. That would give you a good head start.
It is about 35 miles from a city of about 300,000 and about 5 miles from a city of about 16,000. You will drive right through it, but might miss it if you were driving from one of these cities to the other.
The weather there today is mostly sunny and 24 degrees with a light breeze. They are expecting snow on Wednesday. :-)

Is this an actual physical person and their name we are looking for?

Is this an actual physical person and their name we are looking for? I cannot say exactly what you are looking for. I have ruled a number of things out, but that's all I can do for now!

I received a series of questions via PM which I answered and I'm sharing the answers here. You don't need to know the questions because the answers tell you what you need to know.
1. I can't tell you if the boom town in in Ohio, although that is within the geographic parameters, so feel free to search the state!
2. Is it a coincidence that the weather matches where you are? Can't say!
3. I also can't tell you if the Big Smoke is London. There are a number of cities that have used that name so I'd take a look at all of them.
4. Yes, Paree is Paris
5. I also cannot say whether the answer is something naturally-occurring or an innovation/invention, but I can tell you it is not a prison!
So, a little more information to work with!

I can't make it work :/ , Either my cities are too big or small, more than 35 miles north or south of the boundaries, or are more than 40 miles apart. In the one case I found of two of them being within 40 miles, the smaller city is too high, and then the point between them ends up being too far north as a result. I could either cry, eat a hotdog, or set off a few fireworks as that's the nearest I've come to making it all fit, but even that's a bit of a stretch

I have the two cities the right distance, but the larger one has a population closer to 900,000, not 300,000. So sorry! I've been trying to keep everything straight and looked at the wrong population number.
Maybe this will help?
Again, my apologies - I know you are all taking what I post and running with it. But I will definitely correct any misinformation I give you!
Don't cry, but definitely have that hot dog!
Keep the fireworks for later...!

Hi Forgottenhistoryhunts, would 1850 be the year that the boom town the answer was born at was founded? Thanks!

Hi Forgottenhistoryhunts, would 1850 be the year that the boom town the answer was born at was founded? Thanks! No, 1850 is a birth place, not a date. I know that's confusing, but it will become clear when you find the answer!

I will wait until 4pm EST today to see if anyone else wants to submit an answer. If I have not received any more guesses by then, I will post the solution and the names of the winners. I will get some photos of the prizes to Jenny to have her post them as well. I know you all want to know who this elusive woman was! Once you know her name, you will find her everywhere, and also know why you weren't finding her with your searches :-) Thank you all for playing, and I hope you had fun with this. I know I learned a lot about all the amazing people you sent in as guesses, especially so many pioneering women in photography and wars! Pretty amazing. I hope to see you all for the Masquerade Tribute hunt! -FHH

Hey FHH...when's the next one? Well, I was going to wait until after the Masquerade Tribute hunt was well underway, but if you are ready for another one, I can post it this weekend!
I'm always a few ahead, but I need a little time to get the material organized!

Have had a lot of fun with this one, thank you! I think my train of thinking just isn't heading the right way to uncover our mystery woman. Really looking forward to seeing who she is!
