Does this chapter seem out of place to anyone else? Or make anyone else wonder what its purpose is?
It honestly doesn't add much to the story besides the well shown notion that the group enjoys indulging in all kinds of things. So, why is it in the book? Every time I skim through the book it always raises a red flag.
Things that stand out to me are the continued mention of the "Wine Shop-pe" with the old speak spelling and the label on the doughnuts and
OOOHHHHF - interesting start of sentences in the label. Made me think of a bad word (lol). HoHoHo? F? I don't think it's significant.
Made Fresh Each Morning - MFEM - FEMM?
The label seems almost poetic to me.

Stood out to me, too, the first time I read it. In fact, quite of few of the chapter headings look like clues, with some of the chapter text as filler to justify the heading.
Early on, I had a pretty exact solve that lead me to Sunrise, FL. (from one of the blatant clues). It wasn't until later that I connected two of the titles to "sunrise" (in addition to the word appearing in the story text and it being a metaphor of hope and things positive)
Made Fresh Each Morning (sunrise) It Dawned on Me (sunrise)
However, there was nothing else that lined up with the dozen or so clues pointing that lined up.

I wondered about this too because it looks like the shortest chapter of the book. If you copy and paste the label that Sue reads into google, it will actually lead you to a website of a bakery in south carolina (www.glazedgourmet.com) not far away from savannah, georgia. It could be a clue or it could just mean that when writing the book, Pete got some of his wording from the website.

Thanks, drodri, for the information. It is interesting that you found a match, as that is web-intensive information, which Pete said we wouldn't need to work the puzzle. Based on the mileage in the book, did you make an estimate for how far they were from the final location when they were eating the donuts?
There was another tie-in I had for the SUNRISE, FL (Made Fresh Each Morning, It Dawned on Me) -
There is a statement by Nels around Chapter 22 where he writes about the shower in the Clipper being 39 billion times better than that in the Beast, and the SUN is 93 million miles from Earth (more or less).
