I'm just starting to dive into a few of these and this is one of them I'm working. For the life of me, I can not figure out what that item is in the lower left hand corner. I keep thinking of a model of a ship gyro, but I'm sure that's wrong. Any thoughts?

The author said, "1. The temperature was 51 degrees when the clock in the upper right was broken."
Does anyone know why we would think the clock on the right is broken? If anything I would think the left clock is broken because it shows a temp of 0.

Bill, you're not related to Martin Gardner, are you? Sadly, no. Though one of my sons' middle name is Martin in his honor.

That's great! I remember when I was growing up I had his book Codes, Ciphers, and Secret Writing. It started my love of codes.

Ok, starting to have tribute hunt dreams. I dreamed I looked at that book and the author was Linda Gardner.

As goes Brewer, so go I.
