Recently I've been wondering if there is any agreed upon thoughts behind what the best burial containers would be. I know The Secret buried its "casques" in clay items that were inside plexiglass cubes. I believe the clay was to deter people using metal detectors.
If one was going to bury a tiny proxy item, what would you bury it inside so that it would be protected from the elements for years?

I would bury it in a plastic box, no metal for metal detecting, waterproof and will not biodegrade. Glass is more natural but may break upon digging up. Just my thoughts.

You could use a section of PVC pipe with PVC caps glued on both ends. That way you would have several choices in diameter to get the size you needed and it would be water tight for years. For the finder, it would be a delicate operation to cut/saw off one end of the pipe so you might need to allow room for them to do that.

Sure, like a short length of a sewer pipe with two screw-on caps. No need to cut just seal the threads with some sealing tape so they can be unscrewed.
