Hello friends -- this is Kris / forest_blight. I shared this alias with John Michaels, the primary author of this hunt. You probably know by now that JM passed away suddenly on April 3. I wanted all of you to know that Sunset Trail is still an active hunt, as I am sure he would have wanted. Having co-produced this hunt with JM, I know the location of the proxy and most of the solution (I wrote part of it, but JM was responsible for most of it, and he probably inserted some clues that even I don't know about). Keep searching -- it's out there.
That said, I am not entirely sure if the prize that JM intended for the winner is still available. My memory is a bit hazy but I think it consisted of several silver ingots, $200 cash, and maybe some other stuff -- I'm just not sure. The proxy may BE the treasure itself, or he may have buried just a container with a phone number. If it is not the actual prize that is buried, I intend to replace it with something. I'm not sure exactly what yet, but it will be worth more than just bragging rights. Of course, we all know the monetary value of the prize isn't the point anyway.
If you locate the proxy, all you have to do is post your story and some photos in this group or DM me directly (Kristopher J. Preacher). Happy hunting everyone.
John Michaels also helped create The Secret Tribute: Hunt for the 13th Casque. This is believed to be buried somewhere in Cherokee Park, KY. For that reason, a GoFundMe page is being set up to receive donations for a Memorial 'Tribute' Bench to be placed there.

John Michaels, “JM”, a beloved friend and brother, passed away suddenly April 3, 2021.
JM had a love for many things. Music was a passion as well a treasure hunt called “The Secret”, created in 1982, by Byron Preiss.
John’s passion for this treasure hunt inspired him to co-create a podcast dedicated to the hunt and lay the foundation for a Facebook following of over 9,000 members.
Driven by his love of “The Secret”, he generously created and funded a Tribute Hunt, which he launched in February of 2019.
Beautiful and challenging, as only JM could create, the hunt continues with many believing that treasure awaits in Cherokee Park in Louisville, KY.
JM will be missed greatly by The Secret community. It only seems fitting that a tribute be made to the man who mentored and encouraged so many.
Tristina Hesselmeyer, and other members of The Secret community, have proposed a
“tribute” bench be placed in Cherokee Park, in memory of JM.
Please donate so that this very fitting tribute can be made. Thank you.
