This seems like it would be so simple, I keep thinking I'll log in and see that all the prizes have been claimed!
As of now, only 1st prize has been claimed. 2nd, 3rd & 4th are still waiting! Also 4 of the 5 Tribute Cards are still available, and the drawing for the $19.79 tribute donation (either for a free registration or added to an existing one, boosting the amount closer to the amount to be eligible for Jenny's Treasure Caches). This will be drawn on Monday May 14, so every correct answer until then will be entered into the drawing.
It's still early and never too late to submit your answer!

Time for a hint?
Not far from us, a foreign place, Here is where to begin this race.
Eliminate the herring and the nuke, Finding these should be no fluke.
A city shared, across the river, Together forever, they will deliver.
Where America's day begins, And the red sixth, they will be twins.
No love lost yet, so adios! The date is a tricky, but you are so close!
Pearls of wisdom I do impart, A bit vague, but a place to start!

I absolutely mean no disrespect when I post this. This is only my observations. When you post the methodology i.e. number to letter substitution it only leaves the tedious task of rearranging the plates. When you post the news that the top prizes have been claimed it is discouraging and many may quit. As a rule I have a 1/2 hour time limit to find the direction the puzzle goes. After that since I have a very short attention span I get bored! I think if you didn't announce claimed prizes till after puzzle's time limit then perhaps more people would attempt to solve. As a suggestion to solvers maybe this map could be of help. tinyurl.com/99etz7pj

As a suggestion to solvers maybe this map could be of help. tinyurl.com/99etz7pjI understand what you are saying and I did consider not revealing the winners when they submitted their answers. In the end, I felt people might be more upset if they sent in a correct answer only to find out they won't win anything because others were ahead of them. This hunt was mostly just to have a little fun leading up to the Masquerade Tribute Hunt, where the prizes are more substantial.
I also understand that each person has to decide for themselves whether they want to participate in a hunt. What's fun for one person might be a tedious slog to another. I have a pile of treasure-hunt books that were recommended to me and most of them just sit on the shelf because they don't peak my interest!
The prizes for this are small, so there is not much difference between 1st and 4th prizes. Just the light switch plates. There are still bunny charms to be claimed, and the largest (most valuable) prize for this hunt is the $19.79 for a free registration to the Tribute hunt, to be drawn from all correct responses on March 14th. So that is still available to everyone who submits a correct answer between now and then.
The link you posted is to the map I used, but to save everyone from going down a rabbit hole, it is not specifically relevant to the solution. I just thought a retro road map would be a good background for the license plates.
Thanks for your comments - I appreciate the feedback!

I can't speak for anyone else, of course, but I totally agree. I'd be really annoyed if someone had already won but I didn't know it. Lots of treasure hunts have end dates but that doesn't mean the hunt stays open until that date. It only means that the hunt ends on that date if there has been no winner before then.

What I can do, to make the remaining prizes more valuable, is add a gemstone to each of the prizes. So if you win a bunny charm &/or a Tribute card, you will also win a gemstone. Maybe a little more of an incentive for these secondary prizes.

I have received two more correct answers, so 3rd and 4th prizes have been claimed.
Congratulations to the four armchair treasure hunters who have submitted correct answers!
There are no more bunny charms left, but still up for grabs are 3 Tribute cards (for registered players), entry into the drawing for the $19.79 (everyone) and a gemstone for each correct submission (everyone)as long as they last. I'll let you know when my supply is used up, but I still have quite a few
Have fun and good luck!

It's not really my business, but I'm going to add my two cents anyway. Your hunts are free. You ask nothing of us for your research, puzzle creation, time, and gifts. You respond to communication in a timely manner and with extreme kindness and generosity. You keep us updated. Like Subs, I appreciate knowing when a puzzle has been solved. Sometimes it reinvigorates me, sometimes not. Either way, I always see it as positive information. You are brilliant and generous. Please don't feel like you have to add more to get us invested. As always, thank you.

Seconded!!! Also your hunts have so much variety, there's something for everyone. When I first saw the license plate puzzle with the very clear instructions, I thought, "This is great! It's a word puzzle!"
I didn't find rearranging the plates to be tedious at all and found it a nice break from the hunts that are google-heavy.
Not everyone has to do every hunt. But hopefully everyone will find a hunt that appeals to them.
It isn't about the prizes, it's about the fun of the solve.
Thank you so much for putting these together.

Some of the gems you can win! These are available to anyone who submits a correct answer by March 14, 2022.
The Tribute cards are available to anyone who submits a correct answer and is registered by March 14, up to and including the person who wins the $19.79 drawing, as long as the cards last!
Another clue will be posted during the week.

Thank you. I appreciate both the notification of winners and instructions about the puzzle setup. The simple fact - some of us are just novices at doing this. So any help is greatly appreciated by us newbees. If you know the how, you increase your odds.

It looks like this hint was probably more work to put together than the puzzle!
