I'm really not great at book ciphers. If there are 2 numbers, is that line/character or line/word? Any tips or tutorials?

Book ciphers can have 2 or 3 numbers. These numbers can indicate page, line, word, character, etc. That's the trick to a book cipher...figuring out what the numbers refer to so that you can figure out the appropriate letters that make up the cipher.

I understand that part but I don't understand the fact that we are to search for a specific poem, and we did but yet the book cipher still doesn't work even after we cipher the letters like Sam suggested

I believe that the hint "HerricksFourthEnd" indicates a second poem that is to be used with the book cipher. Then these letters are used in the playfair cipher.

I've been reading all his poems trying to find the right one. The only thing that is clear to me right now is why he never married. He's kind of a twit.

The reason I believe this is because I used a second poem based on this clue in the playfair cipher with EVQFD as the key and got text that supports the theme and location I suspect. I feel that this was the correct direction because I also use this poem in a playfair cipher with the new keys in the latest hint and got some decoded text that fits the puzzle. I just don't want to give away the 2nd poem since I'm still working on a solve.

I used to be really certain that we were looking at a book cipher — the red text even makes the box look like an open book with a ribbon bookmark!
Now I am of the opinion that there is no book cipher.
Any ideas as to what the numbers could instead be?
