Should we be focusing on the dog park area? The missing link, (Chain link fence), maybe?

Dicey, If you checkout the historical images of the site you'll notice that the area doesn't look anything like it is today. No cluster of trees there.

Yes. The dog park area has changed considerably but I do favor this area in the park for two reasons: 1) it is just about half way around the loop if you enter the park from the rest stop (almost exact opposite side) “where your return begins” 2) it has the most significant number of trees within the entire park (by far), hence creating ambiguity “at this point in time, they all look like haystacks”. Most of the remaining clusters of trees in the rest of the park are pretty small in number.
…..I am rethinking the last verses. If the “Omphalos” is the center location between the remaining three trees (NOT the alpha star), this would go against my shadow theory.
I actually like the ‘center of triangle’ idea better, however, not sure what the meaning of “if your clock stops…”. So you have identified the correct location and started digging (two feet down), what is the intent of verse #11?

I guess the unknown is , was there a section in the park that had a chain link fence and was an area used for a dog run. If you go to the historic images you can sort of see an outline of a dogs head ( flipped image ) that encompasses the three baseball fields and the pond

Start in Alto (verse #1), go 11 miles West on I-96(verse #2), stop at Highway rest stop (verse #2). After looking through historic maps it appears there was a highway rest stop (up to 2002) at the south end of Cascade Park which is just short of 11 miles from Alto. Thoughts? The verse states 'travel 9 miles plus 2/3 more west before you decide to exit and rest'. Not necessarily 11 miles west. Alto to rest stop via HWY is 9 miles. How about 'plus 2/3 more west'?

Could mean 2/3 of a league more or 2/3 of 9 miles more. Thus, 11 miles or 15 miles.

I've seen this photo several times now and I've never understood where it comes from. Was the original book printed in full color? Seems unlikely, but maybe the cover was in color and this was a photo on the back? I've always heard that the only surviving copy of the book was that black-and-white scan that we're all using, so I'd be interested if anyone could explain how the color photo fits into all this.

Hi Choice. I noticed the same thing. However, using our 80s tool set (paper road atlas with a ruler), I think 11 miles is okay here.

One could read that verse line differently. If the intention was to travel to the rest stop and he miscalculated the distance as 11 miles then he simply could've instructed us to travel 9 2/3 leagues and rest. You could interpret that line as: Travel 9 miles to the rest stop but before you exit go another 2 miles. This puts us at the Kraft Ave. (1st construct). goo.gl/maps/iYk4sBeUbSJEFdPP6

Gotcha. Same reason I feel verse #3 needs to be addressed. Feel like we are missing a key confirmer between the rest stop and burial location.
Thought I had discovered it with “Starr” and “Horizon” streets a few miles north but there is nothing of interest off that exit that I could tell.

Just thought I would put this out there. Page 6 seemingly has several clues, some of which the meaning is still unclear:
-Road Atlas (use atlas to pinpoint treasure location relative to starting city) -Clock: 11:52 (?) -Calendar: Date May 1/7 (?) -A is for Apple, O with dot in circle (?SUN ?GOLD)
Couple of ideas. First O with dot could be interpreted as symbol for the SUN, hence shadow theory using time and date. Two problems with this theory is that riddle only partially hints at ‘time’ in verse #11 and there really is no mention of a shadow and/or monument. As said earlier, a single pine tree would be an odd obelisk-type marker to use.
Second, A is for Apple is just clever way of saying that page 28 is important and the O with dot is simply the alchemist symbol for GOLD “golden Apple” In this interpretation, Verse #10 could be telling us that the treasure is located in the middle of the three remaining PINETREES. Why then is time so important (Verse #11, clock, calendar) if you are already digging?
Interesting sequence of clues in verses #10/11 combined with the image on page. Feels like something still missing here.
Any thoughts?

-Clock: 11:52 (?) Any thoughts? May be a bible reference. Proverbs 25:11 (11:52 backwards) talks about apples of gold.

P.P.S. Here's my favorite pine 'W', but never found the small spot. But if you get rid of the two dimmest stars of Cassiopeia you end up with a "V" or “Λ”. No?

Hi Choice.
I agree with you. The remaining “V” is somewhat ambiguous depending on point of view.
I am leaning towards the theory that the “Omphalos” is the center area of the triangle created by the three remaining pine trees, not the ‘middle tree’ itself. Logistically it would also make sense in terms of digging. It would be the area least likely to be contain tree roots, hence an ideal spot to bury a treasure.
Still unclear what ‘time of day’ would have to do with the riddle, however, if you follow this line of thinking.
