It seems that this puzzle is a kind of reverse of Issue #0, at least to me.
Issue #0: Hidden picture elements used for the "coin".
Issue #1: Hidden elements used for the "compass".
So, after deciphering the cipher part, I'm looking to unriddle it for movie help. Although music could still be in play.

Still looking for a winner and the prize is sitting at $50 for the first correctly submitted answer.
Hint to find the playfair key for those wanting to catch up:
Find the harmony of the different images (Holly, Buffalo, Birds, Springfield) to find the band and then use the formula to find the particular song. The song and the band initials concatenated together become your playfair key.
Another subtle hint on finding the final solution is being emailed to all signed up players shortly.

- Will someone get to enjoy the high of beating the Machine and scoring the $50 prize today?
- A few of you have figured out the format but haven't figured out the complete equation or perhaps you are simply using the wrong values.
- The one additional added image that wasn't used in the musical reference is intended to direct you to remove something from the decoded instructions.
Enjoy the puzzle solving while watching some playoff football, Go Chiefs!

We have a winner, the team of SHADOWGATE. The winning code was submitted at 7:20am PT and I was able to confirm it just after 8am.
They found the connections from the movie to the specific video game played in the movie and the location of the arcade. I'll share more details in a follow up post.

Solution Notes The theme of β The Machineβ was the movie WarGames and arcade game Galaga, and you could say math or string concatenation formulas as they were used in the puzzle as well. Fool = (your machine || me) The hidden images Holly, Birds, Bison/Buffalo (well I learned about my animals), Springfield and the Halo font text 'SEEK HARMONY' led to Crosby (Hollies), Stills (Buffalo Springfield) and Nash (Byrds). With the band and the formula you can find the lyrics to the song WarGames written specifically for the 1980s movie. Lyrics to find:βI am not so sure What you want me for Either your machine Is a fool, or meβ Compass Milestone 1:WARGAMESCSN Puzzle Text / Path to follow:βA grand situs and scores The sum of all fears, in the midst of the machine.β Grand Situs = 20 Grand Palace (from the movie and a real place in California at 20000 Ventura Blvd, no longer an arcade. get 20000 from the name or the address) Scores (the high scores displayed on the Galaga machine in two separate clips from the movie when Matthew Broderick was playing them.) The sum of all fears (remove fears because Underdog catchphrase. Sum situs and scores.) 20000+58260+65050= 143310 In the midst of the machine (the sum total goes between the machine) The machine at Grand Palace is Galaga and that links to the puzzle image and the movie. The Bison/Buffalo was on the Galaga machine. Coin Code:GAL143310AGA (a similar format to the code used to stop WOPR from launching nuclear war) Winner:This puzzle took nearly 2 full months to solve and a few helpful hints. The SHADOWGATE team was first to the compass milestone and the coin solution. Congratulations! More puzzles can be found at retro13.com.

Congrats Shadowgate team!
From the solution, I'm impressed that anyone solved it. Had a lot of it but the riddles were too confounding to put it all together.

Don't blame The Machine, it's just working as programmed. In computer terms: garbage in, garbage out.

Enjoyed playing The Machine! Loved the theme. Appreciated the hints to keep everyone on track. Loved how all the pieces came together in a logical way. Working on Wayfinder now and looking forward to see whatβs next!

Congrats to Shadowgate! I took the Underdog clue a step further, and since he always spoke in rhyming couplets, I thought it could be:
A grand situs and scores The sum of all fours In the midst of PKB WRSFHCB
I've been enjoying the nostalgia of these puzzles.
