Not sure I see what you're seeing The USS Shark met its demise in the area and we have crushing death, soaked in blood (Jaws), plus 'Mouth'. Maybe one of the W3W words. Ooooh yeah, interesting

The 'hidden' poem for those who haven't found it: "My bulwark gate stands at the water's edge to be discovered, An entrance standing in the picturesque landscape. From here upon the sandy doorstep, a search for the key begins. Within the water living amongst the shoals Always in motion an endless pursuit across the oceans. Witness and be inspired, your search concludes with my name." Note "Witness", "inspired" above. USS Shark cbhistory.org/blog/what-about-the-shark/ Note on that page: "The Secretary of the Navy had this to say of the Shark, “all who *witnessed* the operations of the Shark were *inspired* with increased respect for the American Flag.”"

Wait, what, there's a hidden poem? Am I blind? I found it looking at the image file with a hex viewer. (not sure whether it was meant to be seen, but it's there).

After I submitted my "best guess" and before the last clue, I said I wouldn't submit again and I'd focus on helping everyone else. Since then, I haven't submitted anything. pb123 I have no idea where that came from. Honestly, I don't think it's relevant at all. I told you there is no reference to a shark in ANY of the the thousands of squares I compiled using the API interface on the Excel spreadsheet I shared with you and others. shanezor12 NO! You aren't blind. I don't believe you should go down that rabbit hole. Maybe I'm wrong, but I haven't seen anything relevant that remotely tracks to that. THREE WORDS WITH A REEL. Find that. Three words with a REEL! Find REEL in one language or another that matches to a W3W square.

I'll admit I dont have a lot of familiarity with Retro's puzzles, this is the first one I've really tried to do, but it seems implausible that we are intended to search 1000s of W3W squares (in multiple languages too?) and just happen upon one that fits, even if part of the theme is Needle in a Haystack, that's just punishment, even with tools to catalog W3W tiles

I don't think the theme is "needle in a haystack". I believe it's part of the compass that leads you to the area of Haystack Rock. Has anyone tried the W3W square 9 below the Google Map park location? The only square that actually contains "reel"?

I dont think its the primary theme by any means, but to mysteriously remove a rock feature known as the Needle from the main image and direct us to another known as the Haystack seems like an awfully big coincidence

Wait, what, there's a hidden poem? Am I blind? I found it looking at the image file with a hex viewer. (not sure whether it was meant to be seen, but it's there). I found that poem too. It follows the same pattern of the first letter of the first word, first letter of the second word, etc to get the key for the playfair. That is really interesting about the Shark. If not related to this puzzle, it's a fascinating story. Looks like it's how Cannon Beach got it's name.

Hey everyone... that is a mistake! the hidden poem was an alternate puzzle design and I had no idea photoshop left it in a hidden layer. And in fact the solution was going to be related to the USS Shark. So sorry.
This is the primary poem:
My presence is captured on canvas of fame, An experience of light across seasons and weather, A key undetected, revelatory is my name. So fluent in languages, Clark has plenty to share, There found a map, encoded with warning, Muerte aplastante, and, empapada de sangre; beware!
This is the encoded poem:
Home to stone, there’s a translation where the tide washes out, three words with a reel, you just might catch a trout.
And then just the visible imagery is all you need to find the 3 word location.
