I think most of us are assuming that the treasure token (flute?) is the location that Nels solved for.
Is this a reasonable assumption? He didn't find a treasure token there.

A fair point, Astree. But backing up a step, do people believe you need to solve the starting city and retrace the entire journey taken by Winnie and the BC, or do you only have to figure out the final parking point (with the assumption that it is proximate to the city that the clues identify) and then precisely follow the walking steps taken by Nelson?
As for the hand-crafted object, I don't think it's a Balinese suling or flute. Too obvious, and in one of his videos didn't Pete say that only a few had correctly guessed what the object was?

Thanks for the response, zaphod. I was going to pull this thread, but see you had responded. Upon further reflection, Pete seems to be clear in his interviews, that we find the city that the story's group went to, and then do what they do, to find the treasure. This looks to say that the treasure is at the spot, or close to, where Nels found his "treasure".
I'm not sure about the object either. I think a flute is mentioned in the "between the sun and moon" paragraph around the intro, but not sure.

Hi Astree -- okay, there seems to be a majority of folks who believe that the 14, 15, 16 clues are to the destination city, not the start city (though to be fair, the two ~could~ be one and the same). So to borrow a line from Forrest Fenn, if you think you know the final city, why would you care about where the rock quarry and uninspired tower are, or where they ate barbecue or where they canoed? (Similar to if you have the blaze, why care about WWWH.) It would seem to short-circuit all the story detail about their RV and bus journey.
About the only way I can make sense of this is that the starting city and ending city are indeed the same, but to figure out ~where~ specifically within or near that city you need to go, you may have to retrace their journey. That makes their driving waypoints somewhat relevant, if only for confirmation that you have indeed identified the correct city.

I've still got a question mark on the "is the route technically correct".
I am locking onto a final location (first), then going back and seeing if the waypoints agree. I cannot get an obvious connect to the bike rental (e.g., "cyclist city", etc.) and park before that final 45/55 miles.
