I just made a few posts including statement that I am not doing much external research anymore, as the potential connections are overwhelming.
In a similar way, I will list some connections in the book, that look like they were designed into the story, but are (or appear to be) meaningless. "The red herrings and dead ends are there to slow you down."
--------------
In discussion about the hijacking to Cuba, NASA and "The Right Stuff" conference is explicitly mentioned. (You can do external research and find "Right Stuff" conference connections).

Astree, just to be clear, let me ask this question. Is this list (and any future lists that you may add to this thread), a list of items/words/etc... that you are SOLELY taking from the BOOK with no outside research, to draw connections from, or codes? Just from the book?

Astree, just to be clear, let me ask this question. Is this list (and any future lists that you may add to this thread), a list of items/words/etc... that you are SOLELY taking from the BOOK with no outside research, to draw connections from, or codes? Just from the book? I guess not strictly all information is in the book. In the example above, NASA is from the book, but external knowledge is used to expand it to National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Similarly, mention of The Gray Lady is the hijacking chapter is odd, so gets the attention (hey, maybe this is something to look at). I can work with it to get the GR-ADY, but need external information to find that Grady County is South Georgia.
I'll try to post a few directly from the book-only when I get the chance.

astree, I know you are against doing external research, and I can see your point. There is a lot of information and it is exhausting to do research on every word/item/place, etc... that appears designed to fit into the story. But just as an example, using the hijacking to Cuba and NASA, two of the topics you chose yourself in your post above, I can show you that both of these are related New Orleans. The skyjacking story is a true story, and if you read the following article, you will see that there was a scheduled stop in New Orleans: www.slate.com/articles/life/history/features/2013/skyjacker_of_the_day/thomas_robinson_age_16_hijacked_a_plane_to_protest_cuba_s_emigration_policy.htmlThere is a NASA facility in New Orleans called the Michoud Facility: www.nasa.gov/michoudNeither of these took a lot of time to find. Is it a coincidence that both of these relate to New Orleans? I don't know. I would think that the Tommy Robinson story was definitely something meant for us to research. I have found other things that I believe we were meant to research too. So eventhough it is exhausting to look into the odds and ends mentioned in the text, things that appear to have been made to fit into the story, I think we were meant to do so.

LOL, Astree. I'm sure you feel better now that you've gotten that "off your chest". ;-) Didn't Pete mention in one of the videos that he read Masquerade? I figure if he likes anagrams, why not acrostics? No doubt there are other word puzzles hiding in his book. Oh, and clearly Pete is trying to hint that the treasure is hidden in Jackson, Wyoming, in the shadow of the Grand Tetons. ;-)

Those are good astree! But I bet Pete doesn't even know that some of those exist.

Yes, now the chest feels best, zaphod. GB, one of the issues we discuss periodically is the sheer volume of information in the book, and the possibility that any of it could contain clues or hints. This makes the potential for unintended clues overwhelming; I've devised an approach after going through many many examples as in the above.
One thing I found out AFTER putting a lot of time into the hardcopy, is that the formatting in the electronic version (which I only recently obtained, thanks to mdc777 long interview video $15 deal - thanks, Mike) is not the same as the hardcopy. This eliminated many of the "finds" I had, and also why I provided a hardcopy version of the opening chapter above (so those with only electronic version can see it).
That the opening chapter of the hardcopy contains a simple code that connects later in the book to the two items mentioned in post above, is a bit scary for a treasure hunt, if not intended.
