I would like some early hints too! I would like a hint for the hash marks, the ouroboros, and the YVC cipher. Jenny had originally said that we should be able to determine the STATE without much difficulty. Has anyone found anything that at least tells us the state?

For the state, the only thing I thought might work, was using the story in the scroll. When he describes sitting under a tree and having to cross a body of water, I took that to mean the general area and therefore the state.

I agree - if the body of water is significant enough that he "had" to cross it, and not just to have a nice afternoon yachting, that narrows down the search to several, but not pinpointed. Overlaying his itinerary on to the map suggests a couple of key areas, but finding the corroborating evidence is proving challenging.

See if this is good enough corroborating evidence. In the first paragraph, the stranger is sitting under a tree and looking west. The lake he has to pass over is Lake Erie. I base that on this: "the ridgeway view of the lake". Ridgeway is a tiny town half-way between Rochester and Buffalo. It is at the intersection of highways 104 and 63. It is just north of Medina. I think that is enough to give us the state and the general area of where the stone is hidden.

I agree with you, and there are a few other things there , I dont quite get the 104 and 63 references. those arent the numbers on the scroll unless I missed something.

No, the 104 and 63 was to show where Ridgeway is, they aren't on the scroll.

James and I started this last night, and we are close. I wish I'd known about this when Jenny started! It's fun...
I believe that the lake may have been but Lake Ontario, based on some landmarks around the area. But I don't know, it could be Lake Erie. We just started this last night.
It was fun to find out who the stranger was. I don't yet know what "a original think" means yet. I didn't look to see how the other scrolls were solved, and james and I have literally just a minuscule knowledge of ciphers.
And I don't know why one S is missing from the answer to the JCD cipher, unless the second word means a plural of the word the first four letters mean.
I haven't found the ridgeway with the switchback yet.
I don't think I'm giving anything away, especially since I'm probably way off base. Lol. Jenny said the last pieces of this one are quickly falling into place, so for james and I to solve it before you guys will probably be impossible.
I'm looking forward to the next one, and hope we can then provide more serious competition.
One question, are solves more reliant on ciphers than history?

Actually both Mindy. It helps to know the history of where the famous person was and all to give you some general ideas, but it comes down to solving the ciphers to get the final solution. As for this one, many of us have everything solved except the yvc... cipher. It holds the final key to the location. Google " codes and ciphers" and you will get lots of useful sites. Also, Wikipedia is your friend!

As for this one, many of us have everything solved except the yvc... cipher. It holds the final key to the location. Google " codes and ciphers" and you will get lots of useful sites. Also, Wikipedia is your friend! Arrgh...I think I have everything but the yvc cipher solved as of now...and I think it's narrowed down to three spots. I have an idea, but I can't figure out that cipher yet... Okay, though, so swift is a reference to General Swift? The Mason symbol a reference to Mr Mason? The Star of David refers to a landmark in a park that overlooks a lake? The out of balance can be balanced... I don't think I know specifically what the root root moss stone thing is, but my son thinks he knows and it sounds pretty good to me. Lol. There was one place that this "father" was referenced as a "stranger," in Putnams book of the tour. And I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that everyone knows the story references James Monroe. The quote by Oscar Wilde at the bottom is important, but I still don't know why. And I still don't know how "a original think" figures in. I guess I'm still a long way from solving this, but this is my first cipher puzzle and I just started last night. No way I'll catch up with you all, but I'm eager to learn more about these kinds of puzzles. It's a lot of fun! I'll check out the rumkin cipher site. Thanks for all the info!

OK, I thought I would go ahead and post this before Jenny started releasing any additional clues. I have cracked this one. No, I did not solve the cipher because I found out I didn't have to. I am not going to retrieve the stone since it is North of the Mason-Dixon Line and is therefore a little too far for me to travel. I wish someone else good luck and I hope someone else solves it before Jenny has to release more clues!! If there is someone bored today and looking for something to do and would like to go get the stone PM me and tell me where you are located and if you are close I will tell you where to go get it. You keep everything.

I am still looking for someone that wants an easy $250.00. You need to live north of the Mason Dixon line to be anywhere near. (That would be the line that makes up southern border of Pennsylvania and extending east and west.)

I would like to know if anyone is willing to shuffle off to Buffalo? I will give you the solve. You keep $200 and the stone. Give me $50.
Send me a PM.

Hello Everyone!
I have solved the scroll, and with a group effort between myself, my son, and his college friend who lives in Buffalo, the stone has been retreived!
I will post more information later.
